Today was intended for a visit to the church in the cave at Pestera, but as we approached the junction, the left turn had a barrier across it, “road under construction” so that was that. We’d had a nice run up to then, seeing the views and so forth...
So we decided to take the right turn and go up as far as we could to the end of the asphalt and the “no motor vehicles beyond this point” sign, and walk to the standing stones, called “Babele”. It was a tidy walk, some 4 km at a guess, and all uphill, but it was a nice day for it...
After returning to the the trucks, I suggested that we could get to our original destination by a long detour, so we set off on a 25 km or so trip down to Moroieni, and there starts a long forest track that would take us to a junction about 1/2 km from the “road closed” barrier!
We then dropped down to the base of the dam at the end of the reservoir “Bolboc” and then we took one of my favorite detours up to a disused quarry which is a high-point and an excellent viewing platform.
By this time it was 7:30pm or so and we were starving. So up with the table and the BBQ was lit.
By the time we’d cooked chicken skewers and jacket tatties, and eaten them, it was dark, so we set off for the 2 hour drive home, a good excuse for having all our lights blazing to floodlight the way ahead.
A good day, despite the inconvenient roadworks...
