Hi all, there appears to be a metal cover that protects the fuel tank and on mine it is badly rusted. Does it have an important function or can I unbolt it and throw it away?

Thanks in advance.

just noticed the spelling of feul - cannot fine an edit button so "fuel".....

It all depends on what you are going to use the truck for.

If going off-road or even on rough farm tracks the guard will protect the tank from stones (and bits of wood etc.) thrown up by the rear wheels. If you're sticking to tarmac all the time you can live without it.

I got a replacement from a breaker for less than £40 (it was from a SWB and had the wrong brackets so some welding was necessary). It cleaned-up well and is OK after four years of use.

Personally I would replace it.

Bob.

Thanks Bob, I have no intention of "off roading" so looks like it will be consigned to the bin. Thankyou for the advice.

ps I was plagued with vibration and rattles from the back end - guess what it was - rusty old tank guard ready to drop off due to serious rust problem. Now running MUCH quieter and radio volume can be reduced!
