Steering lock/Ignition lock/key trouble

Hi
I am having trouble with my steering lock - and possibly the
ignition/electrical switch on as well.
My ignition lock moves as usual with the ignition key in it but with a lot
less resistance, and the steering lock does not release, no electrical stuff
gets turned on either. I would suspect something between the key cylinder
and the ignition contact/steering lock to have broken - anybody has an idea
t owhat that might be, or what else might be the cause, and how to get into
the thing that needs repair?
As my toy is very stranded, I will appreciate any help a lot... Thanks in
advance...

Hi Henrik,
From memory having done other cars, it sounds like the connection between the
barrel of the lock (where you put the key in) and the rest of the locking
mechanism that does the steering lock and the ingnition has broken.
Your best bet is to take off the covers around the steering column and llocate
the ignition mechanism.
There may be a circlip or something similar holding the barrel in place which
can be removed allowing you to take the barrel out and then use a screwdriver
to start the car and unlock the steering lock.
Chances are you will need to replace the lock.
If you could let me have your VIN number I will try to dig out more details.

If it's the same as my wife's Corolla, after removing the plastic shroud,
you need to insert the key and turn it to the ACC position. Then get a pin
or paper clip and insert it into a hole on the side of the barrel. This will
release the lock barrel.
Oh yes. And if you have a 'traditional' Toyota key, not the later
transponder type with the laser cut patter, check the top of it for
cracking. They have a habit of snapping off in the lock.....
