Stud Replacement

Hi All,

When I was out in the LC two days ago, I noticed a slight “give” in the brake pedal a couple of times. It was late at night, and I suddenly felt a lot of play in the steering. It turns out that the offside wheel was loosely held on by one nut, and three studs had sheared off. As it’s the only tyre that’s missing a locking nut, I presume at some point in the near past, some little runt has tried to remove it.

I’m away from home at the moment, and plan to replace all the studs when I get back. Can any of you offer any advice on how to go about this?

Many thanks,

Ian.

Hi Ian,

You will need to get the hub off and then take the brake disk off - you can then knock out the old studs and tap in some new ones.

Many thanks Julian. Just got back today and trying to track down a 54mm socket!

Just done mine today, bit of a bugger splitting the disc from the hub.

Julian

Could you look at my 'Oh Heck' thread on the 80 forum. I need to have some welding done on the axle but I'm worried about how close the internal oil seals are to the welding.
