Swapping Window glass for Aluminium

Planning to swap out the 2 rear windows for aluminium plate, but using same fixings as the glass, so that they can be swapped back and without damaging the trim. I will paint them black, so at a glance will look like blacked out windows.
On the inside I plan to cover in carpet and then attach tools, storage bins. Etc.. anyone done similar?

The nearest is the Gullwing doors on the 80s DD. But I would say that.

Depends on interest Clive. If there were enough interested, and a trial vehicle available I could make them up.

I suspect DD is looking at something simpler, though a look at the build thread may give some inspiration.

If you were to look at a breakers in Ireland, one even possibly NI, you'll find any number of those panels ready made. Most ( and I'm talking over 90% ) cruisers sold here were commercials, converted on arrival. Done exactly that way, covered in carpet. I don't think original fixings were used however.
