fuel consumption in the real world in the BMWI8, is about 35mpg, pretty rubbish! The company consumption figures of 100mpg+ are lab based and not realistic at all. The pious will average about 45mpg, or about the same as my old BMW530D, which was a vastly better car!
The environmental argument just doesn't stack up. the batteries are incredibly polluting to make and scrap. They also use large amounts of extremely rare raw materials. A pious has the same carbon footprint over the average lifetime as a landrover discovery.
The initial costs are very high and that has to be offset against against fuel saving. combined with that is the probability of catastrophic depreciation due to the cost of replacing batteries (unless you rent them, which is another added cost)
