Vanishing speed cameras?

Has anyone else noticed how the speed cameras are dispersing in and around London? I'm pretty sure it's not because they no longer care what speed we do...

There were some along the A40 and A406 which have gone and it looks like they have average speed cameras in there now but no signs showing the new method of "trapping" which I thought they had to do.

There was also one removed last week on the A1 at Fives ways corner and today I saw one missing on the A10 near the M25...

Are they going to get us with something more sneaky?

They completely removed one on the A3 near Tolworth about three years ago I think but the white lines on the road are still there, it's fun to see all the drivers with Sat Navs telling them there's a speed camera so they slow down.

I remember that bu663r, it was obscured by a sign until you were right on top of it!! [emoji35]

Yes, there was a whole load of road signs before the speed camera. The road signs are still there but no camera.

The ones around the old Avon county were all turned off a few years ago. I was wondering the other day how people that fly along the motorway in the 50 zones don't get caught.

Removal of some speed cameras was announced by the government some months ago as part of the cut backs. IDIOTS !!!

Beware the new HADECS cameras on the variable speed motorway zones. When there's no lower limit in force, i.e., 60, 50, etc and the advisory signs are turned off, the cameras are not and they operate at 70mph. They're also discreetly positioned and very easy to miss.

I've seen them between 21 and 24 in the past 6 months. You right, they off to the side and a lot smaller than ye olde ones.
On two occasions I've been flashed but not received anything in the post. I was doing about 75/80 indicated.

About 1 year ago it was announced that the 70 mph limit on motorways was going to be enforced by speed cameras. They were flashing at 70mph on the variable speed limit stretches of the M42 when I last went down there when the lower limits were not in force.

Some areas have had zero tolerance for years now. A friend showed me her ticket for Thames Embankment, 32 in a 30 mph.

Contentious view but I suspect it might be a way to bolster the purse a bit seeing as there have been so many cuts. For years there has been an unofficial limit on the hiways of 80. If you drive like a prick at 60 on a hiway you're more likely to get pulled than doing 80 with everyone else.

The stretch of A40 between Hammersmith and Marylebone sees about 30 cars a day in the 3 lanes it has. We all used to do around 50-60 but now with the average speed cameras in place we all do 40. It's like a weird movie set with everyone going oddly slow.

Cowbridge road into Cardiff has about 4 cameras on a mile long stretch enforcing a painfully slow 30mph limit and i cannot for the life of me imagine any sensible reason for it , the traffic along that road is dreadful at any time of day so you couldn't race if you wanted to , all they have created is a situation where ideally you will have a passenger to watch where your going while you concentrate on the speedo

When I went on a speed awareness course one of the things I was told was sometimes where there is a camera where there seems to be no need for one is because there has been a fatal accident there, also sometimes residents in that area have demanded one.

I thought speed cameras were supposed to be a deterrent, hence big, square and bright yellow.

What's the point of discreet cameras?

They're just a trap, no deterrent at all IMO. If they want revenue, put up the road tax (except for Land Cruisers, of course )
