Departure date; provisional, 28 Dec 2006, arrive timbuktu on the 10 jan, 3
days in Essekane, the oasis settlement where the festival is taking place,
than back to algeria for a stab in the dunes and amongst the jabal adrar n
ahnet - l'beast may stay at home, simply because now its a payoff between
paying for the trip (about 2,500 euro without l'beast 3,000 euros with it)
and the cost of the gearbox 1,800GBpounds, since I can't do both - shame
really.
However, I do have at my disposal at least 2 x 80s based in In Salah, or for
my purposes, ready for me at Oran Port in algeria since this is where we're
starting from. I'll be driving one of them if ma beast doesn't come with
me.
Now because of a debt remained unpaid (to me) for bailing a 'mate' out
(who's a sponger actually, and never really a mate) I can't afford the
trip - so am taking this 'mate' to the small claims court here in Bristol -
am quit being the nice person that everybody knows me as - its time to get
even with him. I deserve better than this.
So, don't be jealous - I did think though that your home responsibilites
would get in the way of you coming with me, but I still had hope. ATEOTD,
I'm going anyway; I'll wangle it for me somehow...I usually do.
And there is always later in 2007 and 2008 since ma web site will be up and
running soon - the present delay is because I have to 'register' (i.e. a
bank thing) the company before the bank will give me access to some of their
services, like for instance, a trading bank account, or holding account so
when people pay for the trips I'm running, their money is secured, so it can
be used for the tours. The usual kind of stuff the banks ask of us here in
the UK. All gobbledegook for people not in the know.
I think the UK most be the worlds WORST country for bureaucratic red tape!!
Legal jargon, and insurance (public liability, and stuff like insurance
against terrorist acts, hi-jacks, armed robbery, etc., etc) are pages
long...and this is just a very small percentage of stuff that needs to be
done in regards to being self-employed.
If I take cash-in-hand it has its advantages, but I'll be had by the tax
people! so I can't win.
Hey ho! roll on 2007...
