Waxoyl-ing the 80 and rust stuff

Gareth,
I'd be interested in your technigue!
I brought back a 10L of Waxoil last trip I make but I've yet to apply it.
I managed to rerust one chassis rail underneath and put on some POR but not
done other side yet and no doubt the initial side needs doing again.
Its amazing the difference having the 80 in (very wet) Scotland for 6 yrs
can make. I should have Waxoil'ed it the minute I brought it over from the
US but at that stage was planning on selling it.
I've a buddy with an 91 over here (Colorado only) and he has no rust
anywhere on his truck and he wheels it pretty hard. The air over here is so
dry (at 5500ft) and so little moisture. Get (dry) snow during the winter and
maybe rains 10 days of the year (sniff. sniff Irishman needing some rain!)
So my 'underneath' doesn't look too good and often requires plenty of spare
bits (bolts) when I'm planning on 'improving' anything as most of the time I
break bits and have to replace (getting good at taking out broken off bolts
etc.)
I've bought an air gun and have a compressor but not done any artistic work.
Presume I need to add an in-line (water) filter onto the hose.
Actually was a chap named 'Martin Lee 'who ran a farm in Wales (I think)
that ran an 80 who Waxoiled his every couple of years. Was on the 80scool
list but not 'seen' him for awhile. I'll try and send him an invite to the
'new' club.

Renate, not strictly true, you have had people help and who will help in
the future. Remember we - that's you and I, are running a mastercalss in
the art of Waxoyling ones 80 during the Christmas holidays
...

Lal, I wouldn't say I had a technique - sounds too organised ! I remove
the bumpers, wheelarch linings, jack it up whip off the wheels and give
it a very thorough pressure wash. Pop the wheels back on take it out for
a good run to dry it off. Drive over the pit - off with the wheels -
plastic bags over the discs and blast away. Very simple, but to do all
this properly on my 4runner took me a day and a half. I used nearly 10
litres of waxoyl and about 3 litres of schultz , set the gun at about 40
- 50 psi.

Gareth,
How do u do the mixture?
U are using an air-gun?
Do u worry about any rust underneath (i.e. try and get it off first) or just
spray over it?
Lal

Lal, yes I have a compressor - 15 cfm - and I am using a schultz gun -
not - a normal paint sprayer. The schultz gun has a very coarse nozzle
to suit the viscous nature of the product. Body schultz comes in
canisters that screw onto the bottom of the gun. Mixing - I just pour in
waxoyl to about 2/3 in an old canister then tip in the schultz. The act
of spraying it on is a great mixer !! You can't get at the rust to try
and get it off, as the bottom of any vehicle is full of obstructions,
nooks and crannies. You just have to accept that you are slowing down
corrosion not stopping it in its tracks. It,s a job worth doing every
couple of years.

Gareth,
So whats "schultz"?
Unlikely to get over here so would there be another type of generic brand?
Is it necessary?

So what is schultz ----- ?????????
Well - its one hell of a lot of hits on Google that's for sure. When I
go home tonight I will look up the web site from what it say on the
canister and post it to you tommorrow.
Gareth.

Hello guys,
I know that professional utfits use a special rotating nozzle - you
need one to get into closed spaces, like sills, inside the chassis and
all other nooks and crannies.
