I have just recently bought a 24v Webasto Heater.
I have an lJ71, it has fitted as standard twin battery system wired as 12volts, ie both battery's are linked together as one.
Is there anyway i can take off 24volts from the battery's without using a 12 to 24 volt stepper? or will this short the trucks electrical system?

There is no easy way but fitting a 12 to 24 v converter.
Alternative would be an additional small 12 v battery in series, with a charger for the extra battery that kicks in when the engine is running. A bit special charger tho' 12 to 12 v with separate ground.

I'd doubt a webasto/eberspacher would draw more than 10amps even at full whack.

They are designed to be able to draw very little current.
