Headed off from Aberdeenshire with our Hilux for a few days camping in far north of Scotland. Rooftop tent taken off and Karitek kayak carrier fitted to carry our seaboats and borrowing a 9 person Tentipi safir and amazing wood burning stove off a friend.
This is a very new and unique camping experience for us, and after cool of Iceland we are enjoying the warmth of the stove.
Friday headed to Inverness then north to Lairg

and on to Tongue and the spot at Talmine where we camped in May.

A few rain showers yesterday. But mostly dry at the camp spot.

Assembled everything and soon had BBQ on outside, woodburner on in the tent and a beer in hand.

Setup is great for staying in one place for a couple days, but roof tent better for daily travelling. Bit uncomfortable sleeping on floor on thermarest, so maybe need a camp bed for this setup, roof tent more comfy.

Nearly October and we still had an invasion of midges for a couple hours before a light breeze dispersed them

Looking just great Andy, there's not much mainland north of there!

The kayaks look lovely, it's been a long time since I wore a skirt!

Stay warm and cozy, a beautiful country...

Indeed Clive, seemed like we were heading back to Iceland. Wonderful to have a wood burner in a tent

Great pics, looked a nice place to spend some time.

What wonderful pictures! Looks absolutely divine, you've whetted my appetite for the North, how was the salmon? May I suggest camp beds from Boab, I think they are called stretchers, I'm in the heavy brigade and I find ours really comfortable with a self inflating (10mm) mattress, may I ask was the stove alight all night? Did it use a lot of fuel, was fuel for your lovely Hilux easy to get? And finally, Will you go North again? ( questions, questions, Questions, )

Hi mettisse

Not salmon I am afraid, I wasn't so lucky. They were pollack and tasted ok for a starter cooked on BBQ.
I will check out those camp beds if we buy a Tentipi.
Didn't keep the stove going all night, it would have needed a refill.
It used more wood than our woodburner at home. The North Coast is only 160 miles from where we live, and in total we covered about 450 miles, so I had plenty diesel left in my 140litre long range tank :) when we got home. But there are fuel stations in most villages.
Might go west next time, so many other spots to visit within 4hrs drive and good sea kayaking

I was in Keswick a few weeks back, the Nordic camping shop there had a display of a bell tent and woodburner, looked really snug.

Thats a great looking area - whats the score on driving / wild camping, is it grief-free?

Trucks getting some good use, mines a motorway hack at the moment :(

Some tracks you can drive down, but generally not so. Wildcampimg is generally acceptable for 1-2 nights, but not many spots for car based camping apart from near roads, but loads if you are on foot. Some areas near Glasgow e.g. Loch Lomond it is discouraged as there have been lots of problems with litter, tents left behind, trees trashed for firewood. Etc
