[Weight] [80] [tech]

Hi Guys
I was looking at the owners manual today for a change and it said that you
should not carry more than 200 kg on the roof. Yes there is a question, what
is the weight you can carry in the rear of the cruisers. I looked in the
manual but could not find it.

Yep I'd be interested if there is a tow bar max weight.

My plated weights (little panel, inside the bonnet on the top LHS of the
firewall) are:
3060 (Total laden vehicle weight [Gross Vehicle Mass] must not exceed
3.06 Tonnes)
6560 (At the total vehicle weight you can add a 3.5 Tonne trailer)
1500 (Weight on front axle mustn't exceed 1.5 Tonnes)
1950 (Weight on rear axle mustn't exceed 1.95 Tonnes)
The UK handbook repeats this info. Regarding towing it states that:
+ the max drawbar load (downwards weight on hook) is 140kg;
+ the drawbar load should exceed 25 kg or 4% of towed weight, but should
not exceed 140kg;
+ the max towing capacity is 3.5 Tonnes braked, and 0.75 Tonnes
unbraked.
It then goes on to state that
+ "the sum weight of passengers, etc, + towhook weight mustn't exceed
the gross vehicle mass by more than 100kg"
+ "the load on the rear axle must not exceed the max permissable
capacity by more than 15%"
+ "if either the gross vehicle mass or rear axle capacity are exceed as
above don't exceed 100km/h"
Those are the maxima against which PC Plod will measure you if he
decides to investigate.
(nb: 1 metric Tonne =3D 1000kg (roughly 2204 lbs)
1 imperial Ton =3D 2240 lbs
1 "short" Ton =3D 2000 lbs - sometimes encountered in the US)

Mine has 2960 stamped on it for GVW, strange.
Pure coincidence but I weighed the 94 today and its 3160kg with half a
tank of fuel and me sat in it. What's the weight for a standard 80
series diesel?
Best regards,
Jon.

Hi Guys
I had a look at mine and on the left side beside the glove compartment it
says gross weight of this vehicle is 3.5 Tons.and on the plate on the
firewall it says 2960 kg, and under that it says 6460 kg.

Maybe they took some weight out of the later models (mine's 1996). Or more likely they upped the structure weight and maintained the carrying capacity, since all the electric clobber in mine must add substantially to its kirbside weight. Also I've got 8 seats, not seven.

My handbook doesn't say, but I've seen weights quoted in the range 2.1 to 2.3 tonnes. I should think a manual poverty pack is at the low end, and an auto VX with winch is at the top end. Next time I'm at our local builder's merchants I'll put it on the weighbridge and see.
