Well what do I break next?

Hello the guys, now I am starting to think about breaking some of the
transmission with the more horses and torcque. All these croising
joints on the front and back propellers I can be easy with driving
techniques because no body need so much power to do off road work.
But on the road with 220cv I might be tempt to use the horses more,
than the automatiq gearbox will get used more. When I did put ATF
synthese in we saw the old fluid was not so good shape so my gearbox
might be weak a bit all ready.
Now I think I did read here once that mine 1992 is older gearbox and
that newer gearbox is better, but is it more stronger too and can I
put it transplant in mine?

Benoit,
if yours is a 1992 Diesel powered 80 series, your have the A442F
transmission, which is pretty robust - mine has done over 200k miles
before I decided to open it up to see what's inside.
You can get more oomph from the A/T if you speak to Rodney at
www.automatictransmission.com.au, but that will cost you a bob.

I think at this stage the AT on mine is about the only thing that has not
broken or failed and at 225,000 miles I often wonder why compared to all the
other bits that go wrong.
But as has been said it seems very strong so why mess with it just keep
praying it works.
O just one question for all the lads, how does changing the gear box give
you more power.
cheers

Oh my friend the paddy, the extra power come not from the gerebox, it
come from 7000=80 of new pieces that my mecanic will install. New bloc
moteur, turbo and intercooler.

On a slighter note, on my way down to the Salisbury meet I saw a motorway
maintenance vehicle with the Reg number P4DDY.
