I was nosing around underneath and noticed this next to the front near side wheel, it's the oily bit in the middle. It's not dripping but I'd like to fix it.

Also have a small leak there. You may need to replace hoses etc. Or keep topping up the resrvoir ;)
 
I had a leaking flexi-hose for some time and it was almost impossible to identify where the leak was from, until of course it completely let go.

It may be an idea to check that out first.
 
Top tips, thanks. I think given it's now done 182k I will clean it all up and try to see if it's leaking from a pipe as you say Clive. Then in any case I'll strip it and and replace seals.

The 24 valve engines can leak engine oil at exactly this position either from around the pump seal or from between the main bearing ladder frame/block.. The pump can also leak hydraulic fluid.

I was lucky, once the flexi had been replaced and the pump body cleaned up, it has run bone dry ever since.
