Who is doing what maintenance today?

Yay, straight pass.
MOT tester said he couldn't find anything at all its been really well maintained and to carry on doing whatever i'm doing to it and should last many years yet.
Had a job to get me head through the door on the way out.

Bit of preventative maintenance today , etch primer on the chassis.

It's had 4 cans of etch on so far so 3 more should do it before primer and topcoat black.

Looks great, what's the next stage(s)

When its completely coated in etch primer I'll undercoat it all then I'm not sure of the top coat. Something with some thickness for durability. Open to suggestions. It's not something which will be doing a lot of miles or seeing salt.

Thin but tough seems better than thick? It will fail eventually, and thick stuff seems to hide the rust for longer than thin, so you don't know until it's become a bigger problem?

Wow that looks in really good shape Andy. My 95 is well past that, so is going for major skeletal surgery at the end of the month.

Surely the 80’s alternator bolt should be tapered at the end to help line things up when putting it back in ?

Mine has now after an hour of wiggling and failing to line up the holes 1 minute with a bench grinder and 1 minute wiggling it’s in .

That chassis and tank protector look so good i'd have said the pics are from underneath an almost new vehicle.

Talking of chassis black, back in the early 80s i drove for the best maintained fleet in the county and one of the best in the country, not splashing money about they knew maintenance above and beyond paid in the long run.
Anyway, the chassis and wheels were sand blasted every other year or when reqd and painted black and silver respectively.
Chassis black simply didn't last, i suggested experimenting with Hammerite, whether its the same stuff as now couldn't say, anyway the deed was done and the truck looked great, long term result it never needed doing again with the bonus being dirt didn't stick to the hammered finish, one sweep with the steam cleaner and the motor was spotless again.
