Out of interest what are you going to be using the 80 series for - the
lift seems a little excessive if you are only going for 35" tyres.

Reply - : Well I want the lift kit primarilly to make the Landcruiser unique. Secondly I want as much ground clearance as possible for off road use - but The company maintains that the ride should not suffer too much. I know you have a 2.5" lift on your Truck which as you say is great with the bigger tyres. It's just a package that was offered to me by this company and as far as i can find out it's the biggest that can be done to a Landcruiser 80 series.(tyres may be bigger than 35's)
I want to also get a Snorkel, winch bumper and expedition rack fitted from frogs island but still waiting for a catalogue from them - requested over a week ago.
I guess with only having the petrol engine i definatly do not want to get the engine too wet (know diesels are much better for the wet stuff)
As i say the main reason is to make the Landcruiser stand out and be unique. Having only ever had Landrovers, Suzuki sj's and Delica's for off road use before wanted to go as big as possible as the landcruiser seems lower to start with.
What do you think? Do you think it's the wrong move?

Hi Phil,
OK, I guess it is one way to make a statement, however there are quite
a few severely lifted 80s coming over from Japan so less unique - there
is on the road I take to Cheltenham and it makes me cringe each time I
see it, I would hate to drive it like that.
That's down to what they actually do to lift the truck, I've not come
across them in relation to working on LCs so have no idea if they have
any experience of working on 80s.
One of the most experienced companies in the world for doing big lifts
on 80s is Slee Off Road (http://www.sleeoffroad.com) - I strongly
advise that you checkout their site and the kits they do.
A 2.5" lift if perfectly adequate for fitting 35" tyres, if you want to
go larger then look at the body lift, etc. Jon Wildsmith (see
http://www.mudtoys.com) runs 37" and has a mix of suspension and body
lift and may be worth contacting via his site.
Not really, although depends on the tyres you run and the type of off
roading you want to do.
Your best bet for info on big lifts iss to look over to the states
where they are more common - check out the Slee site first and then
also dip into the forums at http://www.ih8mud.com - you should find
plenty of info of use there.

Factors are Center of Gravity and drive angles =96 lift has to compromise both
of these adversly =96 so the consideration whats the best compromise for you,
and that=92s from trial and error and reading about others thoughts but
anything that=92s too far from normal is often that way because it doesn=92t
work well.

Look for pictures of TippyR for a LC with big tires and not the greatest
lift.
