It’s worse than I’d thought but about in line with what I’ve been hearing from others.

I thought I’d show more as I will make this good, I clearly paid over the top for it but I’m in it now. It needs inner arches and two repairs panels for back arches.

I was hoping to get it back this week. Lol

once its done, pull the inner panels from inside the truck and waxy oil it. Mine was repaired for similar damage probably when I bought it, but I went ahead and sprayed all panels, inside fenders, hood, sills, doors.
waxyoil will drip and stink for two weeks, but then its ok…

There's guys on here that have had problems with Waxoyl trapping in moisture and not halting the rusting. Look at Krown as a similar product that expels moisture as it goes on.

I hope it’s going to be worth it at the end. It’s a much larger project than I imagined and although I’m not doing it, I am obviously paying for it. I was hoping to get it back this week but then this, it’s the car that just keeps giving. :/

are you going to replace the rear aches of just not bother putting new ones on I like them without to be fare.

As far as I understand two repair sections for both rear sides have been ordered and two inner wheel arches. It’s adding up now!!!

The plastic arches are all ok but some of the brackets need replacing. He got a quote from Toyota for all four and quote for brackets alone came around £300. I haven’t ordered those.

Just ordered £850 of body parts and this is before welding and now looking at full respray.

300 ouch I bet you didnt order them.
I know it costing to make a solid truck again but you will be adding value to it as well. only going to go up in price.
mine old kzj70 had rust in similar a rear to your so I know how you feeling.

oh good chunk of money for body parts then
think the way to look at it you spending now to add value to it later altho won't seem like that at the minute.

Once a welder starts working on the arches, side windows and front window, New windscreen, headlining and a full respray it’s going to stand me in around £11k to date and that’s without me paying the guy who’s organised it all or repairing some mechanical issues. Had I of seen the car I’d of probably walked away or bid £2000. Bloody eBay I blame myself the most but the seller was a lying sack of shit. Poor judgement on my part but I do believe in Karma.

After the work on the arches it really wasn’t an option to leave the window surrounds if I’m going to the effort of painting the whole car and best day rate we could find on the welding is £200 a day around Crawley.

Dammed rust! Is all I can say Bund! The wheel arch trims should never been fitted as they trap the salt etc and prevent people from seeing the condition underneath!

I wouldn't even think of refitting the arches and leave it so you can easily clean and keep an eye on the metal arches.

maybe its worth looking at the condition in which the fuel filler neck is (is normally covered by a shield, but I guess welder will take that out ) and the fuel tank pipes, the ones that feed to the engine. the fuel tank ones corrode next to the tank . unless theres an inspection hatch from the boot floor one has to drop the fuel tank to replace that part. now you will have access to inspect these elements and have peace of mind later.

From the photos of your truck from a distance, you'd never believe the above pics were of the same truck.

LOL and thats what got me with the ebay add along with the seller being an hour outside Belfast and telling me it was the best of the three he's had, it just needed a really good valet, and that there wasn't bad rust, i didn't even know it had a sunroof till it was delivered!!! I called him and said it wont open and he'd said he'd taped it shut to stop the water getting it and it worked fine, all lies, he must of been pissing himself down the pub with his mates about how he sold it unseen, what a plonker i was . Plus i got played on ebay i now think, compared to what iv'e seen others go for in the UK on ebay, maybe not black ones with the lift kit etc but cant see black and the lift kit making it worth almost double the price of the silver one thats been hanging around.

All inner and outer panels have arrived from Japan/UAE and I think some came from Europe. Welder will start Monday. Looks like floor is solid so that’s hopefully good news.

Definitely the worst car decision I’ve made as I haven’t the skills to help I’m paying everyone to do it. I hope it will be a great car but can’t see me getting the money back it’s costing to get it into good condition.

Crikey Bund, you've got some steps in your learning curve on this one, I feel for you I really do. However, take heart and think on these points:-

1. there are less and less of these around as the rust sends them to their graves.
2. You are saving this one from that fate
3. They will only go up in value, you only have to look at the 40 series.
4. Do it right, have a good job done, look after it and enjoy owning it and it will pay you back in spades.
5. If you keep it long enough, and if you want my you should do, you will get far more out of it than you've put in, think of it as an investment.
6. When it's done, put it all down to experience and just enjoy it.
