    Access to rear suspension tops?

Ok, thanks for the suggestions guys. I did look at the numerous body mount bolts and given the corrosion on the exposed threads, I thought those were best left well alone, rather than risk shearing them off. I would have give the new access holes plenty of rust treatment, but take your point. I...

    Access to rear suspension tops?

I am planning ahead for the inevitable day my AHC gives up. The rear pipes are scaly and are bound to leak at some point. I have just ordered a Pedders conversion kit (the standard height, light load type) which I will keep in storage for the day I need it. Noting the difficulty in getting...

Is Land Cruiser 200 still worth keeping and repairing

I've got a 2003 100 series and I'm expecting the next thing to fail to be the AHC. Rusty shrouds on rear rams and rusty rear pipes. If there was ever an opportunity for a good aftermarket fix, I reckon a replacement AHC pipe kit made from hydraulic hose instead of metal tube would surely be a...

    Diffs and lockers... just checking

To close out this thread… fitted the new Roughtrax RDL. Had a few issues with it not working at first. I could hear the motor winding on/off with the switch but dash light was just flashing and the RDL actuator was not moving to the locked position inside the diff. With the RDL switch still in...

    Air Con, swear con!

Update… ordered a set of seals to rebuild the compressor, plus a new clutch pulley. Once refitted and power supplied direct to AC clutch from battery, the compressor was running without any horrible noises, although the refrigerant was still empty at this point. Got the AC guy back to re-gas...

    Air Con, swear con!

The idler pulley bearing was changed a couple of months ago when I did the cam belt etc. The air con pulley isn’t ever stationary as it turns with the belt. It’s the shaft of the compressor that is stationery until the clutch engages with the AC switch. I’ve ordered a replacement pulley, which...

    Air Con, swear con!

Hmmm, thanks Grimbo. There is one shim washer between the clutch plate and the splined shaft it bolts to. I wonder if the friction plates wear down and the shim ends up creating a larger air gap than is ideal. This could affect the magnetic contact between the surfaces, causing slippage? I'm...

    Air Con, swear con!

Hi all. Another air con aggravation post, sorry. Since my recent purchase of the vehicle, the air con has never worked. Touchscreen works ok but no sound of revs increasing and the magnetic clutch was not activating on the front of the AC compressor idler pulley. The idler pulley runs free so...

Programming a replacement remote fob on a 3.0TD version Colorado

Hello folks, stumbled across these recent additions to my post. To clarify, I was talking about reprogramming the remote unit that alarms/locks doors, as per the image attached (which I just found on an eBay search, if you need a replacement). This 'pairs' the remote with the TVSS box, allowing...

    Diffs and lockers... just checking

Change of plan... driving the truck tonight, I was so nervous about the RDL sliding into a position where it breaks something in the diff. I’ve bitten the bullet and ordered a new RDL unit from Roughtrax (£606 with VAT ), so I can get it put back how it should be with minimum of delay...

    Diffs and lockers... just checking

I had another look at the RDL today, after reading HowManyGoes excellent post from July 2019 on his RDL rebuild. My unit came out without shearing any bolts, which was encouraging. I checked the power supply to the multi-pin plug while disconnected and having identified the two 'motor' pins, I...

    Garage recommendation in Cornwall

Tim and Nathan at Central Garage, Four Lanes (01209 314699) have worked on my current 100 and on my previous Colorado & Surfs. Not Toyota specialists but good lads who have always been super helpful and reliable over the years for me. Very reasonable pricing too. They don’t tend to deal with...

Coolant needed for water pump change?

Coolant needed for water pump change?

Well I've answered my question. Just done all the belts and took opportunity to change the water pump and thermostat, so dumped whatever coolant came out. It took 9L to top it back up. Having said that, I did an EGR delete and thorough clean of the dismantled intake system at the same time, so...

Uhu - in this case, to test the motor feeds on pins 2 & 3 with the connector unplugged, can I just use a piece of cable to ground both pins 5 & 6, thus 'fooling' the diff ECU relays into getting a ground and therefore supplying power to the motor feeds? I guess if I were to ground both 'end...

Rear differential lock or LSD. When does it work?

I was looking for guidance on the rear diff lock for my LC 100 series Amazon and came across this video, which I recall looks exactly the same as the rear locker on my old Colorado 95 series. Shows a nice break down and rebuild, if it helps anyone understand the workings.

Thanks Chris. I was just reading an older post of yours about the RDL on the 80 series, where you describe that the electrical power is only supplied to the actuator motor for a few seconds after switching on, and the actuator movement is stored in a spring pending alignment of the locker gears...

Hmmm. Spent a lot of time achieving not much today! I believe my CDL is working ok because when I jacked up one rear wheel, it span with the CDL off and locked up when I switched the CDL on. Then I jacked up the whole rear axle and set to work on the RDL, which is evidently not working as the...

I have spent time going through the forum searches and service manuals, in prep for checking over my diffs to ensure all is working as it should. My vehicle is a 5 speed auto 100 series, so has independent front suspension and therefore no front diff lock. It obviously has a centre diff lock...

Coolant needed for water pump change?

I’m planning to do a cam belt change on my 100 series and should probably replace the water pump while I’m at it. The manual states coolant capacity (with power heater and rear cabin heater) is just over 13L. However, I assume the cooling system will not fully drain by removing the w/pump. I’ll...

    Oil catch can kit

After my alternator failed the other day, I thought I would take the opportunity to get a couple of jobs sorted at the same time, namely install the oil catch can system and clean out the intake system again.
