    Oil catch can kit

Woah, that is pricey! I think I’ll start at the cheaper end of the spectrum and work up if I think it needs it. I reckon once I’ve fitted one, by pulling off the outlet hose from the catch can whilst the engine is running, a clean rag held up to it should give an idea if it’s effective...

    Oil catch can kit

Ok that’s great thanks. I’ve seen a few ideas about mounting the unit so I’ll have a go at that. I’ll need to get some hose to cut lengths to suit the location of the catch can inlet & outlet. I presume this will need to be correct grade of hose for use with oil products?

    Oil catch can kit

Since removing my EGR system last year, I’ve found quite a lot of oil builds up in the air intake, so much so that I can’t stop oil leaking from the EGR blanking plate on the end of the inlet manifold. I have used gaskets and silicon, but still it leaks. I’m going to take all the inlet apart...

EGR removal/blanking on 3.0 TD series

Hi Tony. Just noticed your question about the inlet manifold nuts. The only one I struggled with (and it might be because I'm not built like a racing snake anymore!) is the top right hand nut (so nearest the back of the engine bay). It was just awkward to get to...I had to climb into the engine...

EGR removal/blanking on 3.0 TD series

Yes I did clean the throttle body & both butterfly/shutdown valves when I had intake on bench. Used petrol and then brake cleaner with an old toothbrush. To be fair these didn't have too much sludge on them. Most of it was in the bores of the manifold and head. Really not sure what your noise...

EGR removal/blanking on 3.0 TD series

Hi Tony. If you are leaving the EGR unit in place but just blanking it off, then yes you can just slide the blanking piece between the exhaust manifold and the EGR pipe. If, like me, you want to dispense with the EGR unit completely, then you will need to blank off the remaining holes on both...

best way to bleed your fuel system

Tony, with the injectors, undo the pipe unions that go to the top of each injector (cover them up with plastic after to stop dirt getting in) and loosen all the plastic pipe clamps/guides. No need to disconnect pipes from top of fuel pump, as you will be able to gently bend pipes away from...

EGR removal/blanking on 3.0 TD series

I'll be reporting my findings! On another note, I don't really understand how to attach the photos to my post and I ended up going around in circles (took longer than doing the work on the vehicle lol!). I did have circles and arrows on my original saved photos, to help identify the points I...

EGR removal/blanking on 3.0 TD series

Take 2…. Now equipped with the right tools, I’ve had another go at the EGR mod and have decided to remove the whole EGR unit (I’ll keep it just in case it ever needs to go back on for some reason). I also wanted to remove the inlet manifold and give it a thorough clean while I’m at it. I...

EGR removal/blanking on 3.0 TD series

Well, that wasn't a raging success! Succeeded in rounding off the top nut holding the EGR to exhaust manifold...and that was the easier one to get to! Rather than persisting with a job that I haven't got time to see through properly at the moment, I have left the EGR for now, cleaned up the...

strang things afoot with my 98 colorado

When they bled your brakes they should also have made sure they jack up under the rear axle to keep the LSV open. If you jack under the chassis and let the back axle hang, the LSV will close and stop the brakes bleeding. Any garage should be aware of this, but just in case it's been overlooked...

EGR removal/blanking on 3.0 TD series

Thanks Shayne, heard someone else (maybe you or Bob) mention the dangers of the spray cleaner on this site before. What about the liquid fuel additive type...will that do a similar trick with less risk?

EGR removal/blanking on 3.0 TD series

Thanks Shayne. Most helpful. On point 4...I'm imagining that the butterfly will be covered in coked residue but presumably also the inside bores of the inlet manifold? Presumably I would need to remove this to clean it properly, or will it sort itself out once the EGR is no longer recirculating...

EGR removal/blanking on 3.0 TD series

I'm planning on blocking the EGR with a steel plate at the exhaust manifold end, as described in various posts I have seen. I do have some questions before starting this job though: 1. Is anyone out there still selling the plates, to save me having to make one myself? 2. Some posts refer to...

Bleeding brakes after master cylinder emptied?

Thanks guys. Did loosen the unions at MC and ABS unit in the end and no air trapped actually. Rest of the bleeding went ok and happy with the result. Only thing that was a pain was that I treated myself to new bleed nipples all round but these are proving to be a pain to seat properly and I am...

Bleeding brakes after master cylinder emptied?

No mate, I don't really know how to actually bleed the MC. It doesn't have a bleed nipple so I assume I can get pedal pressed while I loosen one of the unions? Also is the ABS unit likely to need bleeding?

Bleeding brakes after master cylinder emptied?

Bit late for that...MC already run dry. That's why I wanted to know what to do about bleeding more than just the calipers.

Bleeding brakes after master cylinder emptied?

Have just overhauled front and rear brakes and having removed the calipers, I have let the master cylinder drain. The colour of the brake fluid at the caliper ends was black and grotty, so good opportunity to drain it off. Now that I have refitted everything, I am conscious that the bleeding...

Ball Joints ... thank God that's over !!

Had to replace the squealing brake pads and thought I'd hit a few jobs at the same time, with a shopping list at Roughtrax ... new discs, pads all round, handbrake shoes, track rod ends, steering rack bush kit, and given the mileage has just gone round 140000, upper and lower ball joints. To be...

    Accidentally disengaged front driveshafts?

Out of interest then... if I had wanted to take the whole hub off to get the old ball joints out with a machine press, I could have snipped the retaining strap on the inner rubber boot and pulled the whole hub and shaft off the vehicle without losing diff oil (obviously assuming the top & bottom...

    Accidentally disengaged front driveshafts?

Whilst replacing upper and lower front ball joints (still ongoing actually...) I think I may have inadvertently pulled the front driveshafts out on both sides. I had already replaced the lower ball joints and track rod ends, and hand tightened both, so the bottom of the hub was held in place...

    Cleaning EGR - advice please

Ah. Glad I asked then! Don't think I shall bother with the EGR cleaner...anyone want to buy an 'as new' can, still in original packaging LOL !! Yes Shayne, the other product is just the fuel additive. Thanks for the advice guys. Nick
