    camper conversion

I emailed them last year to see if they would sell plans to be made in UK by a local tinsmith. They were not receptive to the idea and I can see why, but it was a bit daft to expect people to pay that much shipping on top of an expensive product. There appear two versions, one using the...

    Best Roof Racks

That does look nice. My only addition might be some slight height adjustment to allow for the gutter longitudinal arch profile (two piece on the diagonal, slots in each and a pair of nuts and bolts - stainless of course). If not possible in stainless, there is quite a reasonable powder...

    Overland ready for just £18000

The DAF chassis is alright, but that's all... They are permanent 4x4 with a very sticky centre diff lock and a thirsty 6 point something turbo diesel. 5 speed main box, high & lo ratios and they are OK off road - much better laden. The designation is Truck, Cargo, 4x4, 4 tonne DAF with...

    Exhaust.

I think I have been told that the only engines that need back-pressure are the BMC 'A' Series and 'B' series with siamese centre ports and they needed it for scavenging out the exhaust gases from nos 2 & 3 cylinders, this leading to the well known Long Centre Branch tuned manifold for the Mini...

    True, Chris. Happy New Year!

Brake Pads - front at the moment.

The Greens have lasted well, but the Yellow and Orange are ceramic based compounds. Can the Milner pads really only be £9.00 +vat? Worth a go if they're as good as you say, Chris. Only if they're not, it could be catastrophic!!!

Brake Pads - front at the moment.

A well worn question, I know, but who is using what? Time to update... I have been quite happy with the EBC Green Stuff pads in the front for at least 15000 miles (on OE discs) but they are up for changing (no shock there I hear you say). I'd happily go with Green Stuff again, but EBC are...

Can't decide on tyre size for my 80.....

What diameter do the 285/75R16 BFG AT work out at? Chris, I believe Great White is wearing 255/85R16 at 33" there, is this correct? I currently run 265/70 (or 75 can't remember)R 16 BFG AT at about 32/33" on OE alloys and could be tempted by the 285s at replacement time, but isn't there a...

    Headlight upgrade 80 series

The Depo ones are apparently a quality product, but be aware that those you linked to are LHD units and it doesn't mention any other options. Also you should note HIDs in aftermarket applications are not entirely legal so there are possible implications (I have HIDs on mine and they are...

Wanted - 80 series LH (NS) taillight assembly

MOT time approaches and I need a LH (ie UK Near Side) tail light to fit a UK 80 series to replace the one knocked by a delivery truck. It needs to posted to Mrs B as I'm currently stuck serving with Her Majesty's finest. Good condition only, please, with as little contact corrosion as possible...

    Is this worth a look

Both my VX spec UK 80s had/have the cloth trim and no air con - The leather and air were options on the VX in UK (until the face lift when they became standard - but the GX was never offered in UK). The CDL switch only in very early UK trucks and some facelifted ones neither my 91 nor my 94 had...

    None Toyota Seats

The problem with the Recaro or BMW seats linked to is the height of the side bolsters. They will be pulled across every time you slide out and down (or over and in) and eventually split both the cover and the stuffing internally. Try having a look at Isri (Isringhausen) or Bostrum who make...

X-Eng handbrake for the 80 series

Not been around for a while so I've only just seen this thread... I'd definitely be up for one of these! Chris's comment about front AND rear may be quite a good compromise if the discs need to be a diameter wider than acceptable for brake force and clearance reasons

Carl, I've got DAB in my 80 if you want to look at options. I fitted the JVC KRC 901 with DAB adaptor (KAB 1000 I think). I got it from DAB on wheels (www mail order)and they did a good job of being reasonable and quick. You'll need a new antenna as well. Hope this is of help

    Dobinsons suspension now in UK

They may suit your needs, but the Dobinsons that I got under the Pro Comp brand were too soft for my liking. Comfortable, but no load handling capability at the back - and their dampers were rubbish. Expensive mistake to make so check out the rates are to your liking

    High Beam not working

As you didn't remove the wires but only moved the lights, you may find that a connection is simply not connecting. The inner lamps (bulbs) have a ridiculous design that take a positive connection and make it distinctly un-postive. You simply need to push on the plug more firmly. Otherwise the...

Gunk or Diesel as a degreaser

I've never used diesel as a degreaser/cleaner, I would think it's too 'oily'. It makes a good releasing agent, like plus gas etc, especially if you can soak the item. For cleaning I would suggest plain kero/parafin.

    Front seats

From what is in the various threads on Mud, the 100 seats are too wide, and the 120 a very different floor design. I'm not averse to a suitable sub-frame, but if there are easier fits then I'd sooner try them. I've never been lucky enough to spend any length of time in a 120, and only UN spec...

    Front seats

I can remember if this has been on here before, but it is a fairly common topic on Mud. My seats are showing their age, there was a repair in the dvr's seat cushion when I got the truck and there foam is having a crumbling issue on both cushions. The seats are still quite comfortable but how...

    Possible OEM Parts prices decrease....

Yeah, I know: We'll believe it when we see it! I was in the local stealer for an (yet another) oil filter yesterday and the helpful chap behind the counter was surprised by how high the price was so re-checked for me. Very HD SUMO Bars.

I've always thought these look exposed on LRs and LCs, so I may be interested, price dependant. They would need to have std track rod end compatibility and 'enhanced' track rod end fitment. You need to be able to get normal replacement parts when the upgraded ones fail a long way from home

    Interior lights

I thought mine was missing the wiring (see the sig line for spec) but it turned out I had not been far enough. Winch Rope

Got mine from him, nice helpful chap but the hook end cable protector is rubbish. The big competition hooks are 50/50 thing, quick to fit but not through a small eye. 125ft of 11mm is a squeeze on the XD9000, I have a spacer on the feet to enable fitment.

    Shock absorber question

As a basic rule, look at your use and load and level of comfort. Get a set of springs rated to carry your greatest load (which provide enough comfort empty - progressive rates), with a free length and installed length that suit your needs, terrain and use. The dampers should then be chosen at a...

Depending on you wheels and therefore nut type, they should be the same as for alloy wheels. Certainly the case for my taper seat 80 wheels, alloy and steel. Any one that stocks locking nuts for 4wds should be able to help, but try Silverline.
