How to disengage, Stuck center diff lock?

Further to Steve's explanation, also worth noting that selecting the Low ratio gearing will automatically lock the centre diff (and enable you to manually lock the rear axle diff). You can't operate the Low ratio with open centre diff... it locks and iirc, the orange centre diff dash light...

Height control OFF indicator won’t go off

Kieron, if that 50A fuse is fubar'd on your vehicle, I can let you have my old one which i know is ok. When I deleted my AHC recently, I removed the AHC pump/reservoir and that fuse. When the weather improves I'll be removing all the other AHC components from under the vehicle. PM me if I can...

5spd auto downshift on braking downhill

Chinese kit from eBay just like everyone else seems to go for Kieron... approx £30 delivered, if I recall. Provides the cable and disc of software. I bought a cheap laptop to keep the Techstream (pirate) software on a standalone set up. Just waiting for the guy I bought the laptop from to...

5spd auto downshift on braking downhill

I know that Toyota introduced this downshift feature with the 5 speed auto model, but is it my imagination or does the downshift occur more aggressively in wet weather? It certainly seems that in the wet, I've only got to breathe on the brake whilst descending a hill and the box downshifts. I...

Tyres for the Love Island fan?

I'm sitting in the reception area of Tyrefinders today waiting for a full alignment after suspension change... Their phone rings and I can hear from the conversation that the customer wants a full set of BFGs with bold white lettering on show. Also, he wants the tyres fitted so the sidewall...

    Timing Belt advice please.

Off the top of my head, the belt change interval is 90000 miles or 5 years, whichever comes sooner. For the relatively small cost of a belt, I would certainly change it as its been 5 years. My own experience was similar, as I bought the car with only a few thousand miles on a cambelt that had...

USB media player compatible with 2003 on 100 series?

The later 100 series (5 speed facelift) had a different audio system where some of the audio controls are on the touchscreen (shared with climate control, satnav, etc) and then there is the head unit (inc cassette deck) below it. The Tesla unit I mentioned is a replacement for the whole lot but...

Another one looking for a half decent 80 series

I've got no personal experience of the 80 series but I would want a good video of underneath and also worth checking MOT history on .Gov website. If you're close enough to view it easily that's fine but if it's a long trip and the chassis/sills are rotten, you'll be annoyed I imagine.

To close this one out... I have made use of a couple of dry sunny (although cold) days and cracked on with Jobs #2 and #3 as per my opening post. Yep, the 24mm diff drain and refill nuts are the worst... tapered head with hardly enough sticking out to get a socket on properly. I've got a dedicated socket for those which I ground down to remove the bevelled edge on the socket face. I grew up working on crappy British Leyland cars and...

ARB brackets ... bolts made of cheese!!

Well I'll be jiggered! Just been routing through a tap & die set that I bought years ago and never knew how to use. It's got a thread gauge in there and absolutely right... those ubiquitous 12mm Toyota cheese bolts are M8 with 1.25 pitch. Every day's a school day... thank you all

ARB brackets ... bolts made of cheese!!

Since I wrote that about my handbrake, I realised it is not the release of the footbrake per se that causes the extra handbrake travel, it is the car trying to roll forward if stopped on a down slope (maybe same in rolling back on up-slope?). Also, if I test the handbrake by setting it and...

ARB brackets ... bolts made of cheese!!

OK, so I'd like to get a load of stainless steel bolts of various lengths, to replace the very common 12mm bolts that Toyota use. I'll just keep them in store until I need to rely on them as jobs come up. I'm a bit uneducated on bolt threads and how sizing works, but I've noticed a supply of...

ARB brackets ... bolts made of cheese!!

Indeed, it's the good old British weather taking it's toll... every bolt you look at undoing seems to be a lottery! On that note, if I replace bolts with same thread size stainless steel ones (I think this means a 13mm replacement for the Toyota 12mm ones), will there be issues with mixing...

Heater valve enquiry - no heating

Might be worth burping the hoses on the cooling system in case an air lock and lack of circulating coolant is causing the lack of cabin heat. Also, the water in footwell could be a leaky windscreen seal, especially if not the original screen?

auto lever moves into 2 without button

That's normal as far as I recall mate. I think there is a mechanism to stop you downshifting whilst at too high a road speed for the gear, at least for the lowest gear. Air Con, swear con!

I should also clarify that topping up PAG46 oil into the AC system was a bit 'wet finger in the air' in my case.
