Advice required on better grip in snow - keep getting stuck!

Thanks for your advice Clive. Unfortunately I didn't get much chance to play before the snow hit this region. I was in the car park because that's where I had parked the night before. The nose of the vehicle was facing downwards a little on a mild slope. I tried driving smoothly and carefully...

Advice required on better grip in snow - keep getting stuck!

Thanks Roger - interesting to hear about the snow gripping the snow. All these things are coming together and making everything make lots of sense now. I had only had the vehicle for a couple of weeks before the snow hit here in the north east so I've been learning a lot!

    LJ70 - Engaging 4 wheel drive?

This thread has totally confirmed all of the things I was trying to work out in January. I was having exactly the same issues as Carib in the snow and didn't know about the locking front hubs. I've had no problems engaging the 4WD whilst rolling slowly and going straight. I'm quite sure that a...

Advice required on better grip in snow - keep getting stuck!

Hi all, Thanks so much for all your advice on the tyres/grip issue in January. Haven't been able to get back on here until now (and yes Roger it was a genuine enquiry!!!!:hand:). OK so I dropped the tyre pressure and locked the hubs in the centre of the front wheels - problem solved...

Advice required on better grip in snow - keep getting stuck!

Hi Paddler Ed - it doesn't have auto FWD - I have to press a button to the right of the steering wheel to engage H4. To engage the L4 I have to Move a small gearstick down near the normal gearstick. Neither made any difference. It does seem to have manual hubs though - so I'm confused! It looks...

Advice required on better grip in snow - keep getting stuck!

What you describe about the tyres seems to be the issue Majik79. The tread is filled with snow and then simply has no traction - maybe I need different tyres in snowy conditions. Bit gutted - Only had it a month! I'll have to look into the ones you mention.

Advice required on better grip in snow - keep getting stuck!

Anyone know why I'm struggling to get good grip in the snowy conditions. May be me being completely thick for thinking that my LJ70 would have no problem in light snowy conditions but I keep getting stuck! Had to get pushed out of a carpark that had about 6 inches of snow on! Bit embarrassing...

Hello from a new user and proud owner of a 'new' 70 series :-)

Ben - yes I'd love to get it off-road. I tend to end up in some bizarre places anyway due to my job. My poor old Ford focus has been up far too many dirt tracks, mountain paths and muddy fields so I 'retired' it 2 weeks ago. It has gone to a good home where it will be taken to the shops and back...

Hello from a new user and proud owner of a 'new' 70 series :-)

I also managed to rip the front offside mudguard off when driving through the same flood. Fixed it with some large washers that completely covered the original holes (that are now ripped through). Looks pretty neat and secure so I'm going to paint them black so they blend in with the plastic...

Hello from a new user and proud owner of a 'new' 70 series :-)

New alternator ordered. I gave up on it yesterday morning and took it to a local guy. It wasn't the brushes - it was the electrical bits inside the alternator that were goosed. Wonder if me driving through a flood did the damage last week. All the same warning lights came on momentarily after...

Hello from a new user and proud owner of a 'new' 70 series :-)

Haha yes thanks Andy! I was on here trying to figure out what model it was as it's not all that obvious to a newbie like me :icon-wink: I'll post loads of pics as and when I take them. I've made an album on my profile where I'll add in pics when I do bits and bobs to it (or go anywhere...

Hello from a new user and proud owner of a 'new' 70 series :-)

Hi everyone, Just thought I'd introduce myself on here and as a brand new owner. I've been the proud owner of a 1989 LJ70 short-wheel base VX Turbo for just over a week. Absolutely love it already. Managed to break it already though as the alternator seems to have goosed. Stripped it off with...

    Any Series 60 Owners

Hi Ben, Thanks for the welcome, how do I send a PM on here? And yeah, feel a bit daft already as I got the VIN and model number yesterday afternoon and it's a 70 like you said! Managed to get the alternator off eventually with my dad. I'd love those manuals if poss. Thanks again, Ange :-)

    Any Series 60 Owners

Brand new to the site (and to Land Cruisers!) Just bought my first one. I think it's a 60 series. It's real beauty! Short wheel base. Lovely condition. Know the guy that's had it for a few years and he's really looked after it. I've already managed to break it though! Think the alternator has...
