Hi folks

I am finally heading home to start mods on my landcruiser :icon-biggrin:

I have found a 12volt starter and 140 amp alternator to bring home in my suitcase, I am not sure if they are going to be suitable but im gonna take the chance as they are really cheap.

Here are the specs and adverts below, if anyone can advise me of their suitability it would be much appreciated.

Oh and if they are suitable and anyone else needs one im quite happy to chuck another one in the suitcase next time around

I bought exactly that starter motor from Auto8 through ebay. Have it on 18 months now and no issues.

You are doing a 24v to 12v starting conversion?

Yeah I'm probably going to end up with a third battery but for now I can install the split charge and bypass that relay.
Thanks for the reassurance. I think the HD-FTE engine is just the same as mine but with electronic gubbins attached.
there are so many aftermarket parts to be had for cheap in Australia and I travel 6 times a year. Just wish they accepted air miles

Although not using those particular parts, that is the starter I would probably go for when my present units retires. The 3kw unit I have in spins the engine so easily I doubt using the 2.5kw unit would make much difference. Did my conversion around this time 4 years ago and considering I used a second hand minging unit that needed a refurb and modding to get it to fit, it has been great with only the odd minor issue, this is expected when you are trying something that nobody else wanted to try, and I recently found someone who frowned on the conversion way back then has actually done it himself!

Now we know it works it is good to see more going this route.

The 1HD-FT and 1HD FTE are similar engines but there are almost no common parts.

Thanks Frank. I was about to try to find a Toyota coaster bus for an intercooler. Yet more funny looks at the x-ray machine at the airport i imagine.
