1500HP+ Toyota Engine Blows up on the Dyno

Proper job!

Good job they had the leopard print paint on it otherwise they wouldn't have got that much out of it. Maybe racing Pistons and con rods next time perhaps?

The reason why the engine blow was because the Toyota engine would rather kill it's shelf then became housed in a Nissan.....

Of course!! Missed that…well spotted![emoji4]

Does anyone else get the feeling that was deliberately tested to destruction ?

Obviously whatever internals they had were no way strong enough for the power they're after. At 1500hp I hope they weren't dealing with stock internals

Apart from the disappointment of toiling for hours building something that's destroyed in a few seconds, the worst thing about that video was that it led me to waste an hour and a half watching other vids of engines blowing on the drag strip!

Memories of weekly visits to SantaPod Raceway came flooding back, the sights, sounds, and smells all too familiar....

Thanks Chas for a trip down memory lane!

I bought a load of big 6 cylinder Aston Martin parts once and almost them was an engine that had thrown a rod. After taking off the head and sump the block fell in half.

These very highly tuned engines on the tube have a very short life, say 10 mins running time, so premature failure is not really that premature.

It's why I couldn't watch when mine was on the rolling road, could hear it and was just hoping didn't go bang clatter clatter lol

Years ago a guy had an Essex V6 in a MK1 Escort, Nitrous was coming in vogue, he tried some and the car went fast, he tried some more and it went faster. So if some is good then lots is better,...............you could see the impression in the bonnet where the heads and block parted company.

Seeing that brought it all back, the only difference was Santa Pod track 1 was not put out of action for over an hour.

Now I know induction length is important when eking out the very last drop of power, but surely this guys maths is off ....

Once saw a supercharger detonate on a Funny Car there many years ago. Scared the s**t out of me!

Was it the Budwieser in the left lane¿ I saw that one, IIRC the driver walked away from that one. I too think I near shit myself when it went, the whole car lifted off the floor. Unfortunatley I was also there when Al (Bootsie)crashed and died.

It was a long way back, I used to work with a girl who was either his missus or girl friend¿

Regards

Dave

I seem to remember it was a foreign team, possibly Swedish, who suffered the Funny Car incident. Glad to say the driver escaped unscathed. I was also there when Alan 'Bootsie' Herridge lost his life in the jet car crash. Very sad. Still got the program from that meeting somewhere along with several others.

Probably bumped into each other on the day, small world.

Dave
