Hi i'm looking to replace my Prado Haynes manual because Toyota stole mine while my truck was in for a service . While searching ebay i came across this http://www.ebay.co.uk/itm/TOYOTA-1K...0542705080?pt=Non_Fiction&hash=item5d4234a5b8

Does anyone have one ? is it worth buying especially as i will also be buying a haynes or max ellery workshop manual as well ?

May as well ask while i'm here how max ellery compares to haynes , i've always used haynes but have never set eyes on an ellery ?

I wouldn't bother, the combo of Haynes and Max Ellery should be enough.

The ME manual has a bit more info than Haynes on some jobs and vice versa.

Trouble is Joe the forum tells me what needs to be done , and maybe even how to do it . But all of it is wasted on me because i don't yet have the vocabulary , what i really need is a diagram naming every component , sort of like a map of where to start . From a very early age i've been taking things apart and putting them back together in working order without having the slightest idea what any of the parts are called , TV set's , washing machines , Power tools , Video players , Cement mixers , Pushbikes and god knows what else . When i hit my teens motorbikes became my main focus and with the help of Haynes i became reasonably proficient with the vocabulary of motorbike mechanics .

It's difficult to get advice when your asking - what should i do with the square thing next the the round thing just up from the blue thing next to my front wheel if you get my meaning :?

I still would save my money, the max ellery has quite a few diagrams and torque settings and anything else your not sure of just ask and at the worst photobucket a picture on here with an arrow. or the magic search button normally throws up some threads that have been covered before. but it it entirely up to you if you want another manual to browse through for more info.

I have a engine overhaul document, bought it from Australia about 8 years ago and not too sure what it's called but it's a good one and contains a lot of info. If there's anything specific you are after let me know...

If its any help Shayne I'll bring my Max Ellery to lincomb so you can have a flick through and see what you think

Cheers fella's the interdebt is good when you have a specific question but when you don't what its called your stumped before you start . For example i noticed while under my truck today greasing shafts that one of them thingys is broken ! . Thankfully i'm not entirely novice at this sort of thing so a search for "Landcruiser Colorado bush" revealed i need a front anti roll bar bush . Guesswork is fine with things like that but not so good when i fully intend to get into the turbo and find that spring so i can add washers like Beau suggests . And despite wanting to leave the EGR until i'm ready for a new exhaust i wouldn't mind cleaning it if i knew where it was .

By the way does anyone have an old trick for removing snapped grease nipples i don't have a tapping set and there's no external nut to speak of .

I find a good way is to use ToyoDIY. Sign up to the site and then get in touch with Ben (LJ70 Build Thread) and he will add you to a group to get exploded diagrams with part numbers and stuff
