I think part of the problem is aircon, thats a constant drag even when switched off.
The Irish model GL= FX didn't come with aircon in fact I don't think any of the 90 series had a/c as standard unlike the UK models which also had rear lockers as standard.
I can't think of what else might cause such a difference in consumption, apart from careful driving on my part, I rarely go over 60mph, and usually try and keep around the 55 mark which seems to suit my engine.
