Gonner order the body lift from Milners on Monday unless anyone has better suggestions. would far rather give cash to board members than a business if someone knows someone... :)

Will probably phone west coast tomorrow to and have a chat. - Any other recommended calls, is there somewhere closer to kent ? might go OME route as I have had them before on the Jeep and they worked really well and gave really good flex as well..... I am soo good at making decisions :)

Once I am there, I'll re-visit the tyre route and maybe visit someone with larger tyres to have a nose.
 
Milners are the only ones who do the steering spacer. If someone else is selling the kit then it came from Milners. They do trade as well as retail. Milner do a good mail order service.

I think that IM are emerging as the better option on suspension at the moment. Cheaper with a better ride. Certainly not 'worse' option in terms of choosing OME or IM.

Go to 35"!!! :thumbup: The gearing would be fine, I´d like to change to 6th gear with 33" tyres on motorway, I´m sure my engine would have enough torque for that. I have towed always on 5th gear my caravan (1600 kg/250 cm width). The speedo meter is easy to adjust (order a kit from Jaycar). No need with 33", but 35" would need it.

Install 3" bodylift and some 2" lift springs (or some strut spacers) + some fender trimming and you have space for 35" tyres. Less bodylift = bigger hammer/more grinding.
Front diff dropping is good idea too.

It is tempting, but am running a Petrol Auto, not a diseasal manual. although at 60 she sits a little over 2k revs.... so I would consider her slightly under geared at present. (70 = just over 2k is usually a good aim point for larger engines IMHO)

Gonner go to 255s I think. Just waiting for my manual to arrive to look at how the kickdown / Overdrive system works. If it's anything like the Pajero, then the O/D can be modified (If you put the speedo adaptor on a Paj to change the KMH to MPH (and a little sticker to cover the K), it used to make the O/D not cut in until mich higher revs, then you had to do a seperate fix for the O/D).

Now to go spend loads of money.....!

There are multiple threads on the build - or there were. Some while ago now - and yes, they are NAS lights with LED lamps in them. Wired in the dummy lenses in the rear pillars too.

Some of the pics might have gone missing but we can sort that out somehow. They were entirely a custom build. Someone once mailed me and asked for the drawings.. Right. Yep the drawings. Errm, now where did I last have those.....

Well, what a p'off day...

Rang Milner, body lift ordered.... that was the good bit.
Rang west coast to talk to someone about a lift. got a call back a while later and was told they have none in stock and it'll be a few months before they get any in. Asked when and got "no idea" as the reply. After all the rave reviews. found them blunt and unhelpful to be honest.
So Rang overland.... No answer, so emailed them
Rang Frog island.... Chap who knows LCs is heading back from an event in Scotland, will call me back tomorrow.
Also emailed Allfours and and Surrey Offroad.

Next step is contact my uncle in Perth and get him to ship me a kit :) (might work out a tad expensive...)

Someone somewhere mentioned a top Strut spacer or something... (read far too many things late at night and never remember it fully). Or are spring spacers an option.
 
Thats the second downer on WCO recently... Not good...

Have you looked at Dobinsons? Jimbo4x4 fitted some to his 70 a while back - got them from Europe & he's made up with them. Might be another option for you to consider...

Spacers are from Fat Bobs in the US. I actually have a set but I have given to someone to try. Not heard from them for ages so I dunno if they have used them. They are brand new. I'll give him a shout and see if he still has them - whatever his intentions.

Frogs? I'd never call them again. Don't know how they do any business.

WCO were ace when i tried them, but never thought of them as cheap really. But knowledgeable. Maybe they haven't cottoned on to people wanting 90 suspension yet. Never had a prob with the 80 stuff. What about TBR in Peterborough. They're usually quick - for OME anyway. Hold on to your wallet!

Box arrived today from Milners.... And then the rain started :evil:

Got a quote from Surrey Offroad through, ~£2k for lift, fitting, and snorkel with breather extensions...
Based on the chat with Greg yesterday, His should be cheaper, and fixed rate. Just waiting for my chat with him again later.

A cunning plan is forming.....

How Much for an OME lift and snorkel fitted ?

Gotta say the big advantage of Greg is he's under 2h away, so we can take 2 cars down easy and leave it there, no trying to get a train back (I hate trains, did that for 4 years for 5h a day)

I still have the option of having the local mech fit it all, or have a go myself (get a few of the local landy guys over to help) but am working the equivilent of ~10 x 8h shifts a week (11 "days" last week) at the moment. I loose quite a lot of money taking a "day off", even at the weekends.

Had to phone Milners yesterday... opened the box and no Steering extender :o they are sending me one out 8-)

Sorry Ed, I wasn't making a serious offer - I was just making the point that this sounds like a lot for not much. Nick is coming round on Sunday and I'm going to fit his Ironman for him and I won't be charging him anything like that. Having the spring compressor set up it should be a doddle. There's no specialist skills involved at all. Dunno what he paid for the kit all in but my charges won't take him up to 2 grand (if I was fitting a snork as well) He knows I work for tea and cigars anyway.

Commercial garages have to make a living. But I only use them for things that I cannot do myself. Appreciate your time is money, but there is a balance between earning it and spending it I guess. I can't earn it that fast, so I do all my own work. Incidentally, I know everyone fits snorkels, but you have to question just how useful they are. When you need one - you need one. But I reckon even when I did the Corwen Carwash, I'd have got away without one. Std wade is 700mm with a 2" lift and 40 mm suspension lift you're nearly at a static depth of 800mm. Getting water over the bonnet doesn't really take you into U-boat territory. Having said that, it was the first thing I fitted to Lil Blue :lol: :lol:

I wish that I could find more deep water more often, I like that smug feeling, but there isn't that much about most of the time.

Snorkel is more of a guarantee than anything, I try to avoid deep water.... but...

I have slipped into the deep stuff a couple of times with the Jeep and the LC being bigger is likely to be a little more clumsy (it's not the driver of course). I have slid off the side of some rocks getting a punch before now, put the drivers side down into a river badly... Was only for a few secs, and hardly any water in, but without the snorkel it could have cost me an engine. I can buy several snorkels for one engine rebuild :) She will get used quite heavily for playing as well as being a workhorse.

If you are serious about the offer, (though I would stay in a B&B at this time of year, got too old for ice on the tent camping), we'll work something out.

Agree on the 5h comment for the snorkel.... I was shocked at that, the chap that had the jeep before me used SOR and the invoices were quite horrifying on the labour front. I have always used my local Mech and the local landy place before. I did fit the Jeep Snorkel myself, but I had more time then.

I am happy with the body lift, but wouldn't trust myself with the suspension side of things.
Also has a few pics of how it changed over the years.... (pic 3 doesn't look too bad until you realise it was a 30+ degree incline with an axle twister near the top, and she jumped out the ruts.... twas a butt clenching moment! after getting out and taking pics and having a look from outside, she drove out of it fine.) It also gives you an idea of what the LC will get up to. oh, and Pic 6 took 2 winches and a lot of wet people to get me out.... that was slipping off rocks too (the back wheel was over 3.5' deep and not touching the bottom!) And every time I moved forwards, she shot sideways a bit more!
