Guys, this is my first FJ teardown, and where I am a pretty efficient mechanic, I wanted to ask some of the folks that mess with these regularly. I have a 90 FJ62 with the 3F engine in it. I am pulling it, rebuilding it, and planting it back in the beast. Which is the best way, in your opinion, to go about getting the engine out? Better to do it transmission still attached? From the top or from under neath? I have a lift so either option is OK with me, just trying to figure out the best way to tackle it.

Not very knowledgeable on that engine but there are certain factors that may point in doing it various ways.

If it's a autobox connected then the torque converter needs dropping off before removal of the engine in most cases (due to space).
If the bell housing bolts are all accessible then engine out by itself is probably the best option.
