5.3L GM Vortec/ 4L65E swap into 88 FJ62

Really enjoyed your thread. I would love to have a 60 series like this, my old 60 died a death due to rust (Scottish winters and living by the sea).
The quality of your work looks spot on, the attention to detail
It would be wonderful to have a full restoration rebuild of a 60 or 80 series.
Now all I need is a lottery win.

How's your shop 80 progressing?

Thanks for the compliments. I've not touched anything on the 80 in a little bit. The 62 project just kept growing as it went and sucked up all my shop time. The 80 is back up to the top of the heap, at least for a little while as I am expecting other projects in Jan.

So to save hijacking the "vs's" thread.. I always do a lot of research on the old cruisers mods and conversion's. Over in the States most of the conversion's use the NV4500 transmission. So when I see this unit.. I'm always wondering which motor it comes off??

In the Uk they seem hard to come by.. I'm thinking there's a specialist conversion plate to connect to the twin stick 60 series transfer case.

I ve bought a fj45 just ready for restoration and am planning a motor transplant.. in for the long haul restoration process!

Love the vintage cruisers. Not too sure about all the plastic on the new ones!!

Hi Iwan when have you had a fj45 when can we have pics of it good look with ita big  from Tony.

Hiya Tony. . Sorry I missed your post here! Yes I am now a fj45 owner.. all paid up but haven't managed to pick it up yet! Needs a bit of tlc mate! I've converted a shed here as a garage for it.. plan to do a full strip down, weld and new paint.. maybe a spring over axle conversion, engine conversion and big wheels!! Will start a thread about it when I get it.. hope your well bud!!:icon-smile::thumbup:

The NV4500 is either a Chevy or Dodge unit. Advanced adapters has everything you need too do the swap excluding clutch pedal and master cylinder. I believe their adapter requires using a 4WD version. Far more automatics are used in swaps here than the NV4500.

Great work!

I came to this thread a bit late....so a bit of catching up to do. That is one lucky 60 owner. :icon-cool:

Thanks much guys :) I'm collecting parts for the same swap in my wife's 80. In the meantime I have a 40 being delivered tomorrow to do a laundry list of work to. No swap in this one though.

Update

I spoke with the owner this week and he reported 16.5 MPG around town, no real highway driving at this point.
