80 Series Water & Fuel Pumps

Any experiences of water pump failures on 80 series - I'm wondering if
I should put an overhaul of it on the vehicle prep list
Re Fuel Pumps - does the injector pump do all the fuel pumping? - I've
already had this overhauled.

Niall,
For what Murphy's Law is worth, the water pump will fail on the gasket
or bearing or bearing seals, less on a cracked housing. If you are
worried, fit a new pump and take the old one as a spare, or take only
a spare gasket and keep your fingers crossed.
Indeed, all the sucking / pumping is done by the injection pump. If
the lift pump fails (it's fair to assume it won't), it's still
possible to feed the IP from an external source, like a jerry can on
the roof, but it's probably easier to get a tow to a place where the
locals can help you sort out the problem.

Milner do one for =A349 - for the price worth keeping the original in place and carrying the milner and gasket as spares - if their starter motors are anything to go by I wouldn't like to rely on the water pump.

I like Julians Idea of putting an auxhilary "push" pump in place - reduces pressure on IP and might spare the hasstle of driving with a jerry can on the roof!
