Sounds like he is going to be done for Insecure load and other Driving offences.

My knowledge of recovery work is limited, but surely a new tractor unit should have taken the trailer and load? Then broken down tractor unit is removed by recovery truck?

Wonder what they will do with the damaged vehicles?

I have seen both truck and trailer being recovered at the same time by a recovery vehicle, so must be the norm.

As far as the damaged vehicles, I can see them being repair and sold as new

No, it is hard to split them. When I use to work in Recovery we always use to tow them like that. All you do it lift the front and 2 chains!! If it was a standard artic then you would split them.
