ABS problems

Hi Simon
Welcome to the forum and good luck with your new tlc.
I can sympathise with your ABS problems as I am suffering from a similar
problem. I am still a beginner in this wrenching thing but there are plenty
of other people on the board that can advise you. I too have a stuck on ABS
light which has only surfaced since I replaced my wheel bearings and oil
seals. I need to dismantle the work I have done and re grease the knuckle
which will then leave the "ring" clear to be read by the sensor (I hope).
It may be worth having a look at this on yours too.

I had this on mine: brake gently to a halt and the ABS cut in at around 5 mph which, when going downhill, led to "oh shit, no brakes!" syndrome.
On mine one of the rear sensors had been pushed away from the toothed ring, and there was a lot of rubbish in there. This reduced the signal from that sensor, leading the ABS computer to think the wheel had stopped prematurely when in fact it was still turning.
So you've probably got cow shit & powdered dry stone wall in there somewhere. If it pulls to one side when doing this it's probably a front one, if not then a back one.

Hi Simon,
Welcome to the list - we have a few LR converts on here ;-)
Have you flushed the brake fluid through yet?
Bearing in mind the ABS might not have been working for a while, I
suspect that a fair bit of crud may have built up through the system -
with any spurious braking behaviour, I always first do a thorough flush
of the fluid to see what comes out.
