Accessory lamps and radio

Whilst on the topic of lamps I wonder who knows the best bargain
source of twin spots or fogs at present please. I have been put off
anything made by Ring as they have a reputation for the glass
splitting if suddenly drenched. I don't want high wattage desert
rangers either.
Also what about 2nd hand radios. Some may remember that since the
local yobbery relieved me of my radio I have not bothered to replace
it, preferring to leave the cables dangling out of the dash as a
deterrent. This theft even though the radio's front panel was removed
and at home. But perhaps now with safer parking I can risk it again.
Pity its not possible to get the pull-out-the-dash kind of radio, and
the coded radio appears useless these days.
So I have the double sized void that I think is the original Toyota
radio void (my old radio was DIN sized with a shallow cubby
underneath), so how can I fill it? I will pay a visit to super
scrappy ASM at Aylesbury and see what they have. I was
wondering about one of those big chunky Ford sets that they were
fitting, well 5 years ago anyway. Does anyone have any experience of
those or any other recommendation that I could get from the breaker.
I would prefer one with a CD but cassette would be acceptable. TIA

Jon,
The best place for fog/spot lights seems to be Ebay. I have been
looking for some and there is a fair selection that comes up.
On the radio front, I took the old 2-tier set out of my 80 and
fitted a new one, with an adaptor lead, from Halfords. They also do a
cubby box to fill in the empty slot.
Regards, Clive.

Hi Jon,
I have a spare radio and cassette in a car here (SAAB - not sure of the
make of radio - 3rd party) that is going for scrap.
In my 80 Stuart removed the factory cd and fitted a (crap radio) 3rd
party cd/radio.
Just fit a radio in the bottom din slot and then you should be able to
find a blanking plate/cubby hole to fit the top one.
Not sure about wiring side, although I am sure you can splice something
up.

Lamps.
Clive thanks for suggesting ebay. Its not a site I ever look at, so
had not thought about that route. I have to log-on at 10p a minute so
I don't do a lot of browsing, but I guess I could go to the library
for a free go first. What about the Wipac and Britpart lamps
advertised in LROI ?
Radio
Clive and Julian thanks again. I do have an old but very good Philips
3 band radio cassette, but I was wondering about a double DIN set to
fill the void. I could use a single DIN with a cubby again. But when
my midnight visitors removed my radio they left some rough edges on
the dash moulding and I can't see any mounting holes or brackets
left. The combined radio socket and cubby appeals as it might get
over that problem. But I wonder if I can secure it well enough to
keep it rock solid when going over the rough stuff. I have looked at
these mouldings in passing at Halfords but they appear model specific
- Fiesta, Astra etc - so are they easily fitted into other makes? Or
will I be a pioneer in this surgery? TIA
PS Julian. I see the digest is now timed about 15 minutes earlier,
but it appears to be transmitted later in the evening - is that under
your control?

Jon,
The cubby I got was a general one, it had plastic brackets with
it to screw it to the metal frame in the car that the radio fixes to.
When it was in there it looked part of the design. I now have a CB
there that is not so pretty.
Regards, Clive.

Hi Jon,
Nothing has changed with the digest, still goes out the same time each
night.
