Hi Guys
A little while ago I had to get MR T to do my seized rear calipers and put
new pads on.
Well since then I heard banging at the rear and got the rear anti roll bar
brackets and bushings renewed, one bracket was missing.
I still heard the banging like metal of metal and could not find the problem
even after being under the cruiser time and time again.
Today I found the problem MR T did not tighten the rear caliper properly and
it is rattling all the time especially when going over or into bumps.
Now this being a holiday weekend I dont know if they are open tomorrow at
all.
So what is involved in tightening the caliper if I have to do it myself.
Please tell me I dont need any special tools or knowledge.
cheers

Hi John,
You need a 19mm or a 17mm socket. If it is the bolts holding the caliper
bracket to the axle you need it to be about 90ft-lbs and if it is the
bolts that hold the caliper to the bracket they need to be about 60ft-lbs.
I wouldn't drive it anywhere until you have tightened these up. If you
don't have a torque wrench do them as tight as you can with a normal
socket set and then take them to Mr T.
They should have someone in the workshop today and if you are correct in
your diagnosis give them absolute hell because loose calliper bolts are
extremely dangerous.
They should do the work for free and you should be able to get a
discount/deal on your next job you get them to do.

Hey Julian
Thanks for that. MR T is closed so I went to another guy, he had a look and
siad the caliper is fine but its missing some little springy thing that
stops the pads from rattling.
He said its just anoying when going over bumps but is Ok untill I get the
springy thing. Its still crap that they did not notice this when they were
putting on the pads in the first place. So I feel a bit better knowing its
ok.

Hi John,
Well still give them some grief when they open on Monday/Tuesday and insist
on a new replacement.
