All in one Radio

I put a Pioneer DEH-P8100BT in my 100 and also in Steph's Rav4 just over 12 months ago and have been very pleased with them. They don't have the big screen slickness of the AVIC units but tick the BT, ipod & aux input box's I wanted. The main thing I have against the AVIC nav units is that they might get left behind in terms of navigation software development/improvements and map updates compared to a single din head unit like mine and a separate sat nav solution.

The price is much better but your dash needs to not have anything useful in the place that screen would cover up and i'm just not a fan of the aftermarket convergence of stereo and sat nag :)

Whatever type you get, I suggest getting one with a proper volume control button. One thing is to fiddle with a pushbutton on a daily basis, another, and more irritating, is to start searching for the small button when in a hurry, or some kind of emergency. There is nothing faster or easier than a proper big button that you can actually grab hold of, and that your fingers easily learn where to find after one day of use.

Good point, I forgot the big volume knob on mine plus the remote that mounts to the steering wheel that's quite handy

I've got that unit in my car
Miles better than the current alpine unit of the same speck (had that as well)
I don't regret buying it - you get what you pay for
As for the rotary knob ?????
The volume goes up and down with the road noise and my steering wheel controls it fine
Only down side is the mapping could be better

I have the double din version of the Meos unit fitted in mine. The sat nav is a seperate unit that plugs into the back of the head unit. The sat nav side of it is on an SD card which can be removed and updated as and when required. It gives speed camera warnings and also speed limit warnings if you want it to. Mine also has lane assist. You can use the navagation whilst listening to the radio or cd but it will not let you listen to the radio/cd whilst the rear passengers watch a dvd. I think it is good for the money and does all I want it to do. And it comes with an ipod lead but doesn't charge some models of ipod (doesn't charge my 2nd gen ipod touch)

Similar situation to the OP - an 80 series where the original single din radio display has bled and now you can't see anything so it's pot luck what you end up listening to. It's time to put something else in (it has a single din CD player below the radio) - only requirement is ipod compatibility. I've been looking at this JVC unit http://www.caraudiocentre.co.uk/reviews_m-jvc-kw-xr811_p-25927_page-2.htm which for £50 quid more than the next one down gives bluetooth. Anyone tried one of these JVC units? The next one down is

I fitted a cheap one to the daily driver - inphase at about 60 quid and it's much better than the factory one - ipod etc the only problem being that for some reason it forgets the settings and stored stations when you turn the car off. I assume that it needs a power feed all the time to remember the settings which I've not come across before.

.

update - I bought and fitted a Clarion CX609. Bluetooth phone works fine, much better sound quality from ipod and it doesn't look too flashy or new for the car.

The only downside is that the radio reception is patchy - the aerial is 100% plugged in to the back of the unit, but what worked fine for the old radio (even though you had no clue what you were listening to) doesn't work on the new one. I don't know why that should be.....

not sure if you've sorted this, but to solve the settings not getting remembered, swap the red and yellow cables on the iso connectors - they should have bullet connectors on them :)
