Carrying Jerry cans

Make sure you use the TUV rated cans, these are the ones with the locking pins.

Saves hassle with the european police, the old cans were prone to opening in an accident

I have a 100 series and I have had the rear swing out wheel carrier modified to carry a box that will hold two 20ltr jerry cans. As a rule in general day to day use I make sure that the cans are empty and for extra safety I turn them upside down and then ensure the locking straps are in place. I would only fill the cans if i know there is going to long stretches between fuel stops. I have been approached a number of times by various traffic and law enforcement officers and I have never had an issue raised about it in anyway.

Whilst I can not comment on the legal stanc I can only relay my experiences to date.
