I have wiped EPROMs with UV so that was my thought they were adamant (but
probably wrong), suppose stranger things have be invented, the =93exploding=94
self destructing hard disk or chips looked to be a prime anti-theft measure
but I understand the airlines got upset.

=A0=A0=A0=A0 Chips are wiped by exposure to light, it is ultra-violet light though,
not daylight. You also have to take the cover off the back to expose it.
Maybe you were told that by someone that had got part of the story.
