Driving on dunes - what could possibly go wrong?

That's a fun little article!

I've only done dunes in Qatar, but they are high and soft enough to cause loads of problems. I was always with a team of 4 or 5 trucks, so there would always be someone at hand. They are dangerous places to drive and always changing shape and texture. Very unpredictable.

Usually the locals on the dunes are complete nutters!!

Nice article.

With oil prices as low as they are now daddy is going to be cross if you roll another 200 like that.

some of them quite funny though. The ones just "pegged" in there.

Clive,

Did you ever get down to the inland sea?

Yes, a few times, but the first trip was a little disappointing because it was a rare overcast day and it didn't look as "blue" as you see in photos.

On the later trips it was.

The dunes would be a very scary place on your own though, I was always glad to be in a group, especially as I was driving an underpowered 3l Pajero V4.

The other trucks were 4.6l or was it 4.8l twin turbo trolls, some were supercharged. Boy, they had some power, those things. Left me standing.
