Enterprise Upgrade

Been a while since my last post, lots going on. Leaving Guernsey and prepping the Enterprise for Iceland and Fareo Island trip, then moving back to the UK.

After the Pyrenees and Portugal trip, I decided the electrics was the main upgrade priority.

Upgrades, Change the roof solar panel to from 100w to 250w. Changed 100agm battery for 2 x 200Ah lithium batteries. PowerBlock 2500 (12V 200Ah) - Portable Power Technology - [Leaving Land Cruiser Club] Installed 1500w inverter. External solar panel input. Added a 16amp connection. Upgraded DC to DC charger. Upgraded charging cable from car battery to ExCab. Rewired DC fuse box using Egon unit. DC-Hub | Egon | Auto Electric Installer | Bayswater, Western Australia - [Leaving Land Cruiser Club] Added 2nd small fridge to be used as a freezer. SnoMaster Leisure Series LS12 Refrigerator. SnoMaster Leisure Series LS12 Koelkast - [Leaving Land Cruiser Club] Replaced dual Gas Cooker, with single portable camping stove and induction stove. Victron smart shunt. Victron solar battery charger for solar blanket. Upgraded the alternator to a Hilux Rapid Power Brushless Water-Cooled Alternator 14V 200A, RP1TWCH-14/200 - Rapid Power - [Leaving Land Cruiser Club]. Changed from dual gas to single induction hub and single gas. Side boxes for recovery kit and airing kit. Top Box for spares and Deadman, The RUGGEDIZED Deadman V2 - [Leaving Land Cruiser Club]. Dual ARB Air Compressor. RECOVERY BOARD QUICK MOUNT (MAXTRAX MOUNT) FOR MAXTRAX MKII, Recovery Board Quick Mount (Maxtrax Mount) for Maxtrax MKII - [Leaving Land Cruiser Club]. Upgraded Leaf Springs and shocks, Shocks OME BP51.

Wow, You have been busy Gary - impressive !
The whole rig looks a lot more versatile than the 120, incidentally have you kept that, as I see it in the background of one pic ?

Is that ASPW's board in there? Did it make the wiring any easier?

QQ - have you driven Iceland before? If not, a word of warning that the volcanic sand gets everywhere, its very fine and acts like grinding paste - so I would recommend that any of the external electrical joints will need to be very well sealed, or at the least plan for an extensive clean-out when you get back to the UK.

Hi Yes still have the 120, currently pottering around the Isle of Skye with the caravan.

I think it did make it easier, it's great to have central hub. The melting fuse issue was due a bad batch of boards, they replaced all 3 boards I purchased with V2, without any issue.

Doh, sorry mate - didn't realise - fantastic country, I hope to get back there again soon. About a year after we were there in our Defender I found we had volcanic sand in all sorts of unexpected places (e.g. clutch master and slave) - but looks like you already know what you're doing ;-)

No worries, I tried cleaning it at least 1 a week. I did manage to find a couple serious muddy spots.



Took me nearly 6hrs to get myself out this, nearly all 4 wheels were in the same depth. I ended up using and the Deadman, around the 1 and only rock i could use.



I was totally green to all this, when I was trying the winch, it sounded like it was straining and going to pull me out. What didn't realize unill I went to get the deadman, I was actually pulling the rock towards me. The Deadman was a life saver for, so glad I invested in it. Of course once I did get out I manage to;



Pop the Tyre off. so once I figured out how to drop the spare, jacked it up with the hilux standard jack, i got the poped wheel off then tried to put the spare on, to find the jack had sunk into ground a bit. I though ok, i'll just dig it out a bit just my luck.



I hit a boulder. The 1 big advantage of being totally alone in the middle of nowhere, is that can sewar like and absolute trooper without offending anyone .

So I had to put the popped wheel back on and move 10cm forward to jack it up again.

By the time I had finished, it was 11pm, I was knackered. So it was the only time I wild camped for the whole trip. I knew I had to drive back through the same spot and I wanted to sleep on it before I did

It really was, I have never been so sad to leave a place. I wish I had sorted myself out with a visa and stayed longer. Due to cost, I don't think I'll be going back there again, as much as would love too.

The reason it took so long to get out was at least 50% of my own doing and the lack of experience. Lot learned.

Great to see you back here!

Some great mods, I toyed with using the Egon hub but it was just too expensive for my budget. I love how you’ve used the cases on the side of the camper and how you’ve secured the kit inside them, very neat.

Iceland looks great, I’ll make it there one day when I’ve not got a dog to travel with. (dog can only go into Iceland via air, car via ferry!)
