The Legends Trip 2010 was a trip for the legendary 40 series Land Cruisers

The trip had various starting points.
- 1 Johannesburg
- 2 Cape Town / Wellington
- 3 Durban

The destination was the Kalahari / Namib Desert and Richtersveld National Transfrontier Park region of South Africa's Northern Cape and Southern Namibia

For me the trip was 3300km in 10 days using a 1979 FJ40 series Land Cruiser named "Kermit"

A detailed trip report will be posted shortly, these are just a few teaser pics

:?: Could you possibly email me the full size versions of these pics please? Would like to choose a background from one of them if possible, maybe print one or two for my own use :?:

BTW - I forgot to mention - of all of these "OLD" Land Cruisers on the trip "Kermit" [TARSUX] was the oldest and between us we did not have one breakdown, they were all 100% reliable for the entire trip.
But we did run out of Bombay Sapphire and tonic

Jim
I will put together the hi-res pics for you

Is it just me or do '40s still look (in a kind of retro way) really quite up to date. With a nice paint job and decent wheels I think Toyota could get away with selling these still with a slightly more modern drive train - maybe have a Coil sprug suspension and a newer engine that would pass emissions - (maybe even the single turbo version of the V8 Diesel they fit in the '76. Somehow the shape just seems to be a classic that doesn't age - like the Defender (wash my mouth out with bleach) and the Jeep Wrangler. I think the '40 actually looks more up to date than either of the current versions of these.

Maybe that would silence some of the Toyota critics out there - sell a simple rugged and reliable machine and maybe the reliability issues would go away. Back to basics that's what I say.

Nice pics Keith anyway.

BTW the river that we always tried to camp beside was the "Orange River" (the indigenous have now renamed it "Gariep River") this forms the international boundry between South Africa and Namibia

Nice pics, scenery and trucks Keith. You must've had a great time. Will you still drive the 105 after this trip?

The colour on judges truck is awesome!
