front locker not working

Renate,
Describe more your 'usage' of your front diff lock. What u tried, when, how,
results etc.
Does 'iffy' mean it works some times and not others?
I've taken apart both my front and rear (too much inhaling of Scottish mud!)
and can help on 'fixen'. Also have pics and elec diagrams (mines a US FZJ
petrol 96).
Hope ye guys have fun on 5th - would be nice to attend but can't afford the
'shipping'!

137,000 miles on the clock on mine - bodywork a little worst for wear but
engine, quote my local QAS garage "you're vehicle is in excellent
condition - its only a baby, having done 137,000 miles! - I took this as a
fine compliment!
Re diffs,
the Rear-Front diff has been iffy from the start - any suggestions?
central diff absolutely fine, apparently the RR-FR box has been replaced on
a least two occasions, before I got this toyo back in 2000 (1991 Regis). I
tried to use it once in the Grand Erg Oriental in Algeria - absolutely
nothing happened.

sticky situation, in dense sand in a dip, dry but very deep, could not
reverse out, or drive forward, could not turn either left or right so
last resort, to use the diff in the combinations allowed - in the event
it was better (and quicker to be towed out by a friend).
Tried it again just for the sake of it on the ridgeway in the UK in mud
- did not work on this either, so pretty much useless, revs in the red
and traction got me out of the mud - knew it wasn't serious, as I knew I
could get out of the mud, but wanted to see what would happen anyway.
No response, makes me wonder what could have been the original problem
whent he sheep farmer in wales had it before me - I suspect it hadn't
worked for a long time. It may well have seized at some point and the
only way to unseize it was to have it removed and replaced (twice), I
queried this with the farmer but he wasn't able to elaborate on its
condition, so actually, I would like it fixed if it possibly can be, but
I don't use it so there is no hurry to get it fixed.
Would you suggest I have it looked at or leave it be?

Hi Renate,
The factory difs are notorious for sticking and being slow to engage.
You can find further info on the Lcool (www.lcool.org then follow links to technical pages) site with regards stripping them down and cleaning them.
Lets try them on the 5th and make a judgement call then.
