Fuel Solenoid recommendations

Morning All,
I looking for a source of diesel fuel solenoids, preferably the ones that switch both the main fuel feed as well as the return feed.
I've seen a few related to veg oil conversions, but was wondering if anyone here has any specific recommendations?
Obviously reliability and longevity are the key issues.
Thanks.
Regards
Julian

Don't know of any double solenoids, we use Danfoss on generator fuel
systems, bit expensive but reliable and easy to service, don't know how they
would suit a car. One thing to be aware of is many solenoids are "servo
assisted", ie they actually need some pressure to operate, others are zero
bar to xx bar, when you only have minimal pressure (head of fuel only
perhaps) then you need a zero bar unit.

Just a thought on a solenoid on the return, that's not something I have come
across before and what would happen if the coil on that failed and it stayed
shut?

Julian,
I was looking for these about a year ago and found a 24v one that was a
double, It could switch both main and reserve tanks at the same time, IE:
six ports. I can't remember the make but it was a simple google to find it.

Malcolm,
The ones I have seen have a single solenoid switching both the return and the main feed, a bit like the one Clive describes, but running on 12volt.

You must be able to get them for 12v but I was looking for 24. I can't seem
to find them now, I am obviously using different terms.

Hi,
I think when Toby fitted his twin tank system he used a solenoid from an old
twin tank XJ Jaguar. Did not pay much for it from a breaker.
Cheers
Ian

Is this the sort of set up? Seems to be only two in one out on these, one
for each tank - two tanks and connections on both the feed and the return,
heater, never realised there was so much plumbing for biodiesel.

Hi Julian, Ian,
Ian, the Jag solenoid is still lying around somewhere in the garage because
whilst it had nice 12mm ports the actual valve opening was tiny and may have
created problems.
Julian, assuming you want these for switching tanks rather than cutting off
the supply altogether then Pollak do a six-port 12v motorised fuel valve.
I've had one on my car for a couple of years (but not very many switching
cycles), and it has proved reliable so far. It came from an eBay seller in
the States and was about =A340 delivered IIRC.

6-port-motor-driven-valve?&forward=3D1
The downside is the port sizes - it has a 10mm feed and 8mm return requiring
six adaptors to mate it to the 80's 12mm feed and 6mm return.
The wiring is very straightforward using a double-pole double-throw switch.
Might the OEM Toyota solenoids might be another option? Ian, you bought a
couple a little while ago didn't you?
All the best,
Toby

Julian,
For the Pollak valve guy look at Ebay item no. 320303100443

I did, sourced them from a UK main dealer. Can not remember how much but
do remember them being on the expensive side.
Cheers
Ian

Thanks Toby, I'll check it out.
In the past I have used the TBR LRFT fitting kit which is made up of all the Toyota parts, but they sell it for around =A3800 and it is a pain with all the pipework so I'm looking at alternatives.
I have all the part numbers for the kit and ISTR the Toyota solenoid valves weren't too expensive, but I have seen these double switch over valves that looked a neater solution.

Hi Julian,

I don't know the quantity you are in need of.

If it is big, I think I can help you.

Best regards,

David

Last active 2008? Hmm, I'm thinking that things may just have moved on a bit since then Tom.

It’s a good thought David as this may come up from time to time, so thanks for posting even if a tad late for the OP. The thing is, quantities are often one at a time and even through a dealer are unlikely to be on the high side. It would be great to know where to get things like this but it’s a real kick in the pants when you find out the MOQ is 100 units or such like. If you really want to help, and I guess you do, post up the contact details/website of one of your customers that would sell single units. One in the uk would be perfect, one in the EU would be good and any other would be ok.
