33" BFG MTs- flares still on two of the arches- resthave been "removed"
what size lift are you running? didn't want to go above 2" as I didn't want
to get into playing with castor/ diff nose/ Centre of gravity angles etc etc
were you by any chacne at a challenge event near Taunton a couple of
weekends back?
have you had any gearing issues on 36" and what are you running as an
everyday set of wheels/tyres?

Probably quite a bit, what size tyres do you have now and do you still
have flares? Big tyres and the Simex pattern in particular will probably
eat your flares if you still have them. I don't have a rub problem with
those tyres but I've a bigger lift.

I was at a challenge event near Taunton a few weeks ago. I have a dark
green 80 with 36" Simex copies. I have recently had my diffs regeared with
4.56's. It was OK with standard gearing but is better with the new ratio.
The car is a play thing and spends most of its time on the Simex type tyres.
The only time I change is when going on a overland trip, same size different
tread pattern.
I do get an occasional rub on full flex. My car has a 2" spring lift, 1"
body lift and some 1" spring spacers on the front. The spacers were to make
it sit more level rather than solve any rubbing problems. I don't have any
flares.

dammit knew I should have said hello- the site is one that I "run" in
conjunction with 4x4 adventures- I just didn't have time to find you and
introduce myself.
I presume you are using silverstone remoulds which iiirc measure about 37"-
at least they did on my challenge truck. They use Michelin XZL carcasses
usually- it's a bit of a pity they don't seem to be available anymore!
out of interest where did you get the ring and pinion kit from for the 4.56
ratios? did you do the body lift yourself by ancy chance-if so, what
problems did you find- ie steering linkages not long enough, hi/lo shift
lever not long enough etc etc

No, they are Lerma Gomme which is an Italian remould. Apparently they are
highly rated on the Euro trials scene. They are remoulded on Michelin
carcasses. The official size is 9.00R16 so they are narrower than the
genuine Simex tyres.
I got the ring and pinion kit from http://www.justdifferentials.com/
I did fit the body lift myself, the only two issues were redrilling the
radiator mounts to keep it inline with the fan and triming the gear stick
surround (manual transmission) so that it would select reverse. The second
issue was quite funny as I only discovered the problem after driving into a
car park space and not being able to reverse back out!!
