I am fairly new to navigation systems.

I have been running memory map software on my net book, but i also have a Garmin Nuvi 1690, it also has route planning software that i can use on my computer, it has an off-road mode, and can use coordinates.

When recently updating it i found that i can now get road maps for Morocco and Tunisia.

Are other maps types available elsewhere like OS maps?, can i run memory maps on it like a proper Garmin? or am i sounding stupid

Hi Jim,
I also have a Garmin 1690.

Do you say that the maps can be put onto a laptop, and used?

How to do?

G.

If you have the "Garmin Live" feature on your 1690 then you need to plug your Garmin in to the USB port, get on to the Garmin website, register your Garmin, then you should be able to down load the programmes for your computer and Sat Nav automaticly.

You should be able to get a number of programmes for your computer, Map install, Map source, My Garmin Agent, Web Updater, map source is very similar to Memory Map, ie you can plan routes, create way points etc and transfer them to and from your Garmin 1690.

You can only do this if you have paid your money for Garmin Live, in the UK you get it free for a year.

Once you have registered, every time you plug your Garmin 1690 into the USB it will automaticly hook up to the net and notify you of any updates, there is also on line help.
