glovebox jammed shut

First off Hi! my first post re my first Cruiser, ive got myself a 95' 75 series 1HZ RV sweet ride i love its rugged simplicity, thing is the damn glovebox is shut, the previous owner did admit the latch was broken and a replacement is only a few bob on fleabay but no matter how i try to prize it open its wont budge! whats the fix? please tell me it aint a complete dash removal!
