GRJ78 Troopy to Overland ready home

After sitting on the floor since last summer I finally got the awning on today. Custom designed by a friend, the stainless steel brackets turned out perfect and much better than the steel ones from Alu-innovations also a fraction of the price! Nothing beats a Teleporter for easy install!

Winch isolator mounted. This is twin pole so will work for the rear winch also. Blue Sea unit on custom made bracket.

Today the front bumper was removed for a trial fit of a winch bar I’d found via FaceBook, an aluminium bar from Australia. The challenge was whether it would fit with a factory winch mount since that is not an option in Australia. While the bumper was off I had the first opportunity to look at the factory installed winch. There is very little information about the factory winch anywhere!

Interesting, it spools from the top of the drum, unusual for a drag winch, normally you spool from under the drum… that makes fitment of the winch bar much harder… oh well

It has a second solenoid in line and only runs with the engine running. I only operated with no load to get the wire rope off (of which there must be 30m!) but it seems to run quick. Size wise it has a substantial gearbox, bigger (diameter) than most planetarys on the market today.

Some nice touches such as magnets on the rear of the controller so it doesn’t slide off the hood.

Very tidy - like the winch hook, neat fitment.

(What breed is Zero BTW? Looks a little like our Patterdale...).

@Gr8Yota Looking good. Who are you using to import your stuff from Australia, having quotes between 950 and 2500 Aus to ship an exhaust

I have a friend out there. He sends small stuff post as less hastle

If someone can buy and post from Australia, will it be cheap? Or will I avoid extra import taxes? I am looking for Donaldson PowerCore 4x4.
I have a friend coming from Australia but hesitant to ask him as it might be big and might not even fit in his luggage.
Instead I can ask to buy and courrier to me

Might be worth contacting a few uk Donaldson dealers or Belgium office for prices.

Hi Raj… wow that’s expensive! Post from Australia is by weight only, not volume but still expensive, I’ve been paying around $200 AUD per box average for things like lights etc. Customs charge you VAT and Duty on the carriage as well as the item too… The advantage of post is the cheaper items don’t seem to be stopped for taxes as easily as they do via Courier. Might be worth asking your friend, even if he pays excess luggage it might be the cheapest way. (I had a friend fly in from Dubai with two huge boxes of suspension, business class so no charge!).

A few more jobs ticked off…

Airbags fitted in the rear, custom set to suit the required height and the parabolics.

And the one wheel which I assembled (and fitted the tyre to) originally split and the sealing gel which I didn’t have when I first put it together added to the O ring… It had been losing a tiny amount of air around the O ring without the gel.

So now I can adjust the ride height on the rear.

Looks perfect. I look at these upgrades and get inspired. Then seriously think I ll add x,y,z … but by the weekend I only end up doing a little bit wash/wax to satisfy myself n keep quiet until another post from one of you. I am just adding layers of wax :)

Not sure about the transmission tunnel one in practical use (seems a lot of "stuff" around the gearstick), but the back door ones look great. Was the shipping cost reasonable?

Yes I’m not sure on the transmission one, other than I put loose stuff down on the tunnel so to have a pouch to put it in is good.

I arranged the shipping for about 1/4 the cost from SA even though both with DHL I paid about £50 courier.
