Well Sockets really.

I am in the process of doing a set of custom drawers for the back of Dirty Gal and decided that she needed her own dedicated socket set (spanners etc to follow) Now I was tempted to go for another one of the Halfords professional sets.

I already have one of these and it has served me well but got it at Xmas time I think and it was on offer at half price (Currently £200)

Well the Snap on man turned up today at my workshop. I have always been dubious about their prices and have never really know if the quality justified it. Well my arm was twisted and I now have these shiny additions to Dirty Gals Drawers. (£280 inc Vat)

Ive had that exact same set for many years now and has served me well :)

The only thing I broke was the T30 so replaced it with a Snapon one !

Am I right, do snapon tools have a lifetime guarantee (i.e. if anything breaks, they replace it for free)?

Possibly though they didn't really promote the fact. The other lads at the yard have the same sets and say replacements are not overly expensive (lost bits). The Halfords set I have has though but not on moving parts.

Also noticed that on the snap on ratchets there is an L and R on the switch thingy but I don't thing they are the right way round (lefty loosey righty tighty)

Just a shame that the first outing the new ones got was on a God forsaken horrible, rusty pile of green oval. lol The more I am forced to work on them the more £300 for a front diff makes sense.

Shinney! Nice :icon-biggrin: Love new tools! Oh yeah Phil Mitchel uses a halfords socket set! lol

Yeah lifetime warranty, sometimes gotta bend the truth on how it broke though lol.

I think the bluepoint stuff is a bit more limited but never had an issue getting items replaced tbh. They don't tend to argue when spend so much with them.

I've never had a problem with getting any brand of warranty items replaced under warranty....even ratchets which they don't cover officially have all been changed....I use a mix match of every thing. Surprisingly I do like the halfords pro range as I like how small the width of the spanners are.

Sheer tool porn.....love it

For those that don't know Bahco are a tool company that manufactures for Snap-On. Their gear is not lifetime warranty but if you want Snap-On quality at a sensible price you can't go wrong with their gear. Got loads of Bahco stuff and only thing I have broken is the 1/4'' ratchet.

We had the halfords man in today and he said as of February this year even moving parts - ratchets etc ARE covered in the warranty.

My little brother used to work for Bacho, he has a garage full of stuff........as he is not coming back to UK I think I had better 'negotiate' a garage clearance!

nice tools sir!! Snap on for that price looks a bit of a bargain.

halfords Warranty isn't worth sh1t! They will only cover it if you have the receipt, even though they are stamped halfords.
When I had to take a broken socket in they asked for the replacement receipt I explained that
a) I didn't keep receipts for 10 years
b) If I did it would have faded to nothing years ago

At which point I pointed out that they were clearly their sockets, as they were stamped, to which they replied they didn't know if they might be stolen, at which point I left and I haven't bought a tool from them since, which is a shame as they are actually not bad.

It was about 20 seconds before I realised he was speaking English

I had that problem too Cris, that idea of the bolt not dropping through is good but of course it would only work for one side.

Sounds like you had a jobsworth, moggy. More than once I've gone back with no receipt and had it replaced (usually a 17mm socket or 6mm hex driver as they get the most abuse). Either that or they've changed their policies to cut down on replacements.

However, having inherited a well stocked Snap-on cab last year, I just bin any broken Halfords kit now. It's not worth the hassle.

Just seen him again today and he said you don't need the receipt but its down to managers discretion as to if they swap it???? it made no sense to me.
