Greetings from Botswana!

I have owned several Cruisers throughout my life. Currently, my wife drives a 3.4 V6 Prado and I drive my favourite Cruiser, a 100 Series Turbo Diesel with the 24valve 1HDFTE engine.

Currently have an issue with a horrible engine diesel knocking noise, excessive smoke and loss of power.

OBD port diagnostic shown Code 1220, looks like the Timing Control Valve?

Took the cover off the pump and identified the unit. Was hoping to find a broken wire or something, but nothing obvious.

Any advise on how to test:
a) The wires to the unit (voltage, resistance etc)
b) If the above tests good, how do I test the unit itself?

Thanks in advance!

Ben

Hello Ben, welcome! Can't help on your problem, unfortunately. .. Hopefully someone will pitch up with an answer for you..

Hi Gary!
Thanks, appreciate the feedback.
I opened up the wiring harness going to the fuel pump and found a damaged wire. Cleaned it up and taped it properly. First test drive yesterday went well, so hoping that I caught the gremlin!

Someone posted a problem, what they tried and a possible fix. A rarity and I feel a little faint.
Welcome. Hope its fixed for you. I love my 100.

Hi All!
Sadly, 2 days later, and the problem is back....
Anybody know how to test the TCV? (Timing Control Valve)

Værsågod.
