Hunting and outdoors

Paintball, yes the only shooting sport where you actually fire at people! And folks love it. Shoot a target and it's Ohh people shouldn't be allowed to own guns.

Shayne, yes I'd quacked the duck too. It's the larger mammals that the law applies most rigorously to.

Lad at work has a couple of rifles and says about the laws for shooting stuff.

I love being in the outdoor so far away from everything that at night you can't see a town's lights even from the top of a mountain...

As for hunting, shooting rabbits or fowls for the dinner is entertaining, one does not tire of it (beats buying a greasy chicken from Tesco any day...) but stalking big things is a whole different feeling. Especially if the thing you stalk can terminate you if you screw up... I love the awareness that keeps you on edge when walking in lion and elephant country, places where you are definitely not at the top of the food chain unless you have a gun, and a good one at that. And a drink by the camp fire at night tastes a whole better than by a barbecue in the garden at home!

Love the whole hunting, shooting and fishing thing. Coupled with some camping and woodcraft, perfect. Nice to do it in SA I'd imagine. I'd like to go somewhere where you don't get some bobble-hat pop up every 5 mins saying 'Ooh you can't do that..'

Great forum, set up recently by some like minded mates, limited moderation so some good banter alongside the information. We need members and content too!

That rules out just about anywhere in the over regulated UK then. Poxy do-gooders.

Just resurrecting this thread. Just updated my collection with this:

Its a Sig Sauer Mosquito - 22LR - had first go at the range this morning and got on OK - need some front sight changes or I could fit a laser sight I have to it!

Also, ordered one of these, just waiting for delivery!

Brand new, 7.62mm, made in semi - auto. VZ 58v, so cheap you wouldnt believe! It should be here by end July! I had to get permission for both from the Prefecture, = jumping through hoops, visit from the Gendarmes, and more paper than you could shake a stick at!

The AK lookalike is a bit OTT for grass snakes I would think .... :)

French grass snakes really that fast and that vicious then?? :)

Actually I'm pretty surprised you guys can still legally buy those considering a competent armourer could probably 'fix' it and given some of the loonies you've got running round there ....

Mind you some of those old boars can be pretty hectic ;)

Not for hunting, just paper targets :)
Need a different permit for hunting. And then all the paper work involved to get anything more than a shotgun!

Can you carry the sig on you in france or.Must it be kept at-home? I am surprised you could get the rifle.
Well done

Transport must be in a locked case, unloaded, and not on the front passenger seat! I also have a trigger lock as well, even in the safe at home. I have 2 safes, one for pistols and munitions, tother for rifle/shotgun and the due in soon VZ.
When the Gendarmes came a few weeks ago, they were well impressed that the trigger locks were on in the safe! It was a surprise visit (with 24 hrs notice cos we were out when they came first time!)

So yes, all kept at home, but quite securely :)

I like the Sig. Nice and if it shoots well without jamming (as some .22's do) then even better

I had issues shooting a 40 glock recently that jammed and I was flinching aswell which I don't normally do.
With the 7x57 I did alot better. Had 6 rounds at 100m in a 30mm group. There was 2 different weight rou.ds aswell.
I didn't realise what difference to the feel of the shoot it makes. The heavier round felt less kick and gave the best results.

Strangely, I shot 100 CCI rounds, no problem - tried American Eagle and they were rubbish! Couldnt shoot more than 1 round without a jam. I will keep them for my rifle. Very odd.

We have to have a firearms licence in NZ and we have to list the arms we have.I have a Brno 22 bolt action as a don't like to see autos in the hands of the idiots who don't make sure of their targets.I also have a beautiful English Boswell 12gauge made in 1903 which I inherited from my father who was a champion shooter.Needless to say they are kept in a secure place.Living in the country every now and then I have to do humane killing,I don't like it but mostly you have to.

my brother has just returned from NZ and loved all the shooting but was also very surprised at where and what you could shot.

I've got some mates who get choppered in to wild country in the middle of the North island and they are after deer or wild pigs.usually they have about 4days and some times they don't fire a shot. They have an agreement that unless it's a sure kill leave it alone.I've been to SA,SabiSabi and compared to NZ bush it's a cruise in the park.Pat
