I think I may have found a car worth looking into but thought I would post the conversation I have had with the owner and ask for any thoughts. Best start at the bottom.
The one thing that had popped into my mind was that if I made a cheeky offer of £12000 and he accepted its still £2K over what I would like to spend which could be spent on Bullbar/winch/rack etc..
Anyway happy reading and any comments welcome.

Hi Warren
I haven't used Overland Cruisers - I use Osaka Toyota, Coomassie St , Newport, NP20 2JP - 01633 223670. They are independent Toyota trained mechanics - they used to work for the Toyota main dealer here in Newport but set up on their own about six years ago. They have all the diagnostic kit, use OEM parts, they're far better price wise and don't do unnecessary work. Give them a ring and speak to Cal if you want more info - he knows this car.
MOT expires 18/08/2011
Tax expires 31/08/2011 (registered 01/03/2003 and falls in the current £245 band)
4 new tyres (Dunlop GrandTrek) fitted 19/08/09 @ 89,673 miles
Last full service 26/04/10 @ 99,846 miles (all fluids I stated before, brake fluid also changed, advisory on front pads that have now been done)
Last work done 20/08/2010 @ 101,972 miles (air con fixed, steering rake motor, front pads)
Two advises - will need rear discs/pads at next service and drivers side calliper inner piston boot seal has a split.
Current mileage is 102, 450
It had the 4speed Auto box, sat nav, privacy glass, rear parking sensors, dual electric tow pack, full set of MudMats and a bootliner.
Hasn't been used for off roading.
The only common fault I haven't dealt with is the drivers side front fog lights is "fogged".
I haven't any other pics and its raining here this morning (not unusual for Wales!). Happy for an independent inspection if Overland Cruisers can do it "while I wait", you pay for the inspection, contribute to fuel costs and I can have a copy if you don't buy the car. It's about a 100 mile round trip - or you could speak to/use Osaka here in Newport. The Ryder Cup is being hosted here this week, so it will be a bit gridlocked - I can do any day accept Tuesday next week.
I've attached the Glasses guide valuation I did in August 2010 at 102,500 miles. If you want to make a without prejudice offer now, bear in mind the history and the common faults that have been dealt with, and the current prices on the likes of Autotrader.
My reason for selling - don't need a car of this size anymore, sold the caravan and not planning on getting another. I tend to do the running around in my partners bland Vauxhall Zafira - better on fuel and easier to park (for her!). I've had a few test drives in the Subaru Outback and am considering the 3.0Rn - I like 4WD and a bit of ground clearance but don't need a full blown SUV.
Regards
John

Many thanks John it sounds like you have looked after her.
It would not have been Julian at Overland Cruisers in Upper Eggleton would it as he is regarded as the Oracle of Landcruisers in that area.
As I don’t want to waste your time and mine would you happen to have any other pictures you could send me and what is the reason for wanting to get rid of her.
I cant seem to find the advert again and so cant remember if there was any MOT and Tax left on the vehicle and what you where asking for.
Would you object if it got to the point where we agreed on a price if it was subject to an independent inspection at Overland Cruisers.

Hi Warren
Sounds like you know your stuff!
My LC is an 03, 4.2 VX just coming up to 102,500.
Full service history - main dealer or Toyota specialist - all OEM parts fitted. I don't have the book to hand, but it was last serviced around 99K - including AHC, Transmission, Transfer and Diff fluids. Timing belt changed around 80K.
Steering rake motor - in/out failed and changed about six weeks ago!
AHC and Comfort Settings are both ok.
No shudder on brakes - new front pads six weeks ago
All windows lower/raise ok.
Aircon - had the problem - fixed and now all OK
Diff locks - only used once this year and worked ok
I have towed a 1500 KG caravan approx 1,500 miles.
I'm in Newport, South Wales. Approx 2hrs drive from West London.
Regards
John

I appreciate your candour and no I am not a trader nor am I a canvasser just a 32 years old South African looking for a solid car to export back when he return in 2012.
In a nut shell I am looking for an 02/03 4.2l VX Diesel Auto around 100 000 miles with a good service history in good condition outside and in.
I know what I want and am very thorough in my inspection as the VX suffers from steering column adjustment motor fail which is prompted by a squealing motor on movement of the column. The auto height control also fails as the air bags go around 100 000 miles and cost £900 to replace. The vehicle needs to raise and lower quickly with a noticeable difference in sport and normal in suspension.
The under carriage needs to be free of rust as the salt on the roads has proved to not be a good thing for landcruisers especially at the rear. Abrupt braking should not have any shudder and the diff locks need to both engage and disengage as they have a tendency to seize.
All the windows need to raise and lower as the drivers side also has a tendency to fail along with the rear air conditioning as the pipes going to the rear AC unit corrode.
Sorry for all the comments but if i am taking it to SA I don’t want it to let me down.
In the one picture you have posted it has a caravan behind it. Has it done a lot of towing?
Regards
Warren
